OT - Vic. Aust. bushfire victims

Hi all,

I would like to request prayers, good wishes, healing thoughts, or whatever you believe in to help the bushfire victims in Victoria Australia. Many people have lost their homes, lives, families, pets and neighbours in these devastating fires, many of which were deliberately lit. These fires are worst in recorded history for Australia since records began in about 1850s.

Have just seen pictures of the devastation. It looks totally dreadful. I do hope you are not in any danger yourself. . In message , DiMa writes

My heart goes out to all there. I think I heard 30 dead. That is so very tragic. I sure hope they are able to get control or the weather changes soon. Sending thoughts and prayers that way. Taria

My thoughts and prayers are added. Here's a link to The Age, which shows a lot of the carnage..

Oh, Di, how truly awful. How anyone can deliberately start something like this completely escapes me -- humanity isn't very humane sometimes, is it?

Hi Pat,

My family and friends are safe, although I do know people who have lost literally everything.

Thanks for the offer - once day when I am more financial, I may just take you up on that offer.

We are safe where we live.

Dee,

Scary, scary. It's so sad to see so much lost - human life, property (public and private), wildlife, etc. Even scarier when some of the fires are set on purpose.

Good wishes and healing thoughts headed your way and to all Australians.

Thank you all for you prayers and thoughts. I am safe up in Queensland (not in the flood area in the Far North.....which has its own set of disasters....), but I am just so desperately sorrowful and sad over the Vic. situation - I come from there originally, I still have family and friends there....) I am sitting reading the paper, with tears, it is still continuing --- my best girlfriend is waiting to see if her 125yr old hotel in northern Vic is going to survive, there are fires all round near Beechworth. She has the hotel currently leased so is not there.

Already done, DiMa. The magnitude of the loss of life is truly awful. I hope all of our Aussie posters on ASD are out of harm's way?

Deliberately set? Nature can be bad enough, but when human evil adds in sometimes the end result is intolerable. I'm so sorry for what's happened and is happening there. We in the US West know all too well about wild fires. Summers can be terrifying times, waiting for the next idiot to strike a match in the tinder-dry forest.

My prayers are with the people of Australia now, the ones battling the flames and the ones watching helplessly as it unfolds on television screens.

The landscape before the fire must have been absolutely beautiful.

I read that the temps in the preceding days were upwards of 47 C (117 F). We get that hot here in southern Nevada in the US, but we live in a desert. We have small wildfires here too, but they can't move with that kind of speed because there is so much less foliage to burn. Before seeing the pictures of the devastation, I couldn't imagine that a place with so many trees and pastureland could that hot. It's truly devastating.

I hope things get better SOON!

not sure where that weatherfront originated but the intensity is such that its held the heat til it reached the islands of NZ where we've had new record highs set around the country this weekend. we've only hit 28C here in auckland but we do sit on that isthmus so sea breezes on both sides keep us cooler than other parts of the country which reached 38C on the east coast of the south island. hotter inland for sure. i wouldnt cope, i'm barely make'n it here. i'm such a wuss. has cooled down considerably today, thank goodness. hope'n for rain soon, it better come or i'm gonna swim north to get some relief. we get fires here but nothing at all like they get way too often in Oz. my heart so goes out to all of them. j.
