OT weather here too

Of all things! I've been quilting inside under lights that produce some heat and using a steam iron - wearing my fur-lined boots and a flannel shirt over my regular tasteful ensemble of sort of matching sweatshirt and pants. Going to be 18° here tonight. On the Mississippi Gulf Coast? Going to snow in Orlando FL? (That's Disney to you geography challenged.) I pray that all of you are being wise and careful in your cold weather survival. The heartbreak of brutal cold is always house fires and heart attacks. Stay warm and smart. Please. Polly

Apparently today's HIGH here in HOTlanta was somewhere round about TWENTYFOUR Degrees F! The 1/4" of snow that fell yesterday has stayed throughout the day -- of course. Just about all of the schools were closed. Only colleges and trade schools were open, I think and a lot of folks didn't go to work today. Heaven only knows what the low will be tonight -- I'm certainly not going anywhere near the Weather Channel! I've had the heat turned up to

66F (that's 2 degrees warmer then normal for me) plus had the fireplace going -- burned up about three pieces of wood tonight, too! I'm off for a nice hot bath and then a snuggle under the heavy down comforter -- maybe even with the heating pad down by my tootsies! Everyone be safe and stay warm! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Now if I could just wrap the three dogs one each around the frozen drain in the kitchen sink and the frozen water pipes on the bathroom sink and tub I'd have it made. I was washing dishes in my bath tub until the line froze.... dirty dishes (and wet snowy doggy footprints!) everywhere!

Woe is us! Hope y'all are taking care and staying warm. (I have my two gas fireplaces and space heater running full time and all the faucets that aren't frozen are dripping to try keep them from freezing, too.)

Do be careful, those who are using space heaters and gas appliances to stay warm. Extreme cold and freeze the gas lines, cutting off the supply just long enough to put the flame out, and then allow the flow of gas back into the appliance without benefit of flame ot burn up the gas. I don't mean to sound paranoid or anything, just be careful. Extremes of heat and cold in places unprepared for either are just nasty. If you've got a nice warm puppy or kitty, pull 'em into bed even if you don't usually do so. It will help everybody. Yes, Polly, the heartbreak is house fires and heart attacks. As a reporter down on the Arkansas River Delta for several years, I saw first hand the misery of even normal winter cold. Ice storms just killed people who lived in little wood shacks without fitting doors or windows, no insulation and no way to stay warm but a wood stove in the middle of the floor. I hope that in the 30 years since then, that the kind of poverty I saw in Arkansas and bits of Louisiana has given way to a better way of life, but I fear that intransigent poverty and depression are the same as always in that area.

Sunny, I hope you don't think I am living in a wood shack? LOL I am fine- just battling the personality quirks of a lovely old home that is sharing her first winter with me as a resident. I pray for those less fortunate in this terrible weather.

We finished all the snow plowing yesterday, thankfully, as it's -15 this morning (that's the plain ol' temp, not the wind chill), and we're headed for a high of 0. The only good news is that we're supposed to have lots of sun, and that'll be nice.

Everyone please take care and be safe if you have to be out in this frigid weather!

Now we're dealing with a pouting Yorkie. Yogi thinks we ought to all suit up and go fox hunting. That little rascal loves the 18° we have this morning. Polly

Guess it's all relative. Minnesotans would laugh at the idea of closing schools for 1/4" of snow. And 24 degrees F would seem like a heat wave compared to what we've been having since the first of the year. We have

14 degrees below zero this morning.

We have wind this morning, coming off the mountains - uh-huh, the kind that may bring the devil winds and fires. They expect storms coming in on Tues and Wed. It is pretty nice temperature-wise.

There are major waves on the coast, just in time for the surfing contest this weekend.

I'm heading to the Fairgrounds for the gun show, which happens to be right next to the surfing contest. Should be an interesting mix of cultures ;)

We had 70° 's for a week now. suppose tos hare some of Ginger's rain on Wed eve and then go back up into the 70° 's again. I KNEW there was a reason I tolerated the 115° for the summer months. Didn't cut the roses back so now I have 3 bushes that have buds! YAY!

Butterfly (Who FINALLY FINISHED the warm window late yesterday... except for the final hems--they have to hang a week first)

I think Yogi needs to come visit his Aunt Louise and Aunt Kathyl here in Iowa. He would love it!!! OR.....we might just find out what to what degree his love of cold weather wanes.

Our Maggie loves the cold weather too - for a little while! But even she thinks the last couple of days have been just a little *too* cold. She pretty much goes out, does her business, and comes running back to the door to come back into the warm.

Excellent idea! Maggie would love to take him exploring in all the snow in our back yard, but I'm afraid he might easily get buried in one of the drifts. Mags bounces around in it like one of those YouTube videos we've seen, and it was a riot watching her chase the blowing snow.

If you want to come up, Polly, you're sure welcome, but hurry - we're supposed to warm up into the 20s and 30s next week!

Yep! Snow and rain mix last night from Daytona Beach on the Atlantic over to Tampa on the Gulf, and back to Orlando. It would be really strange to go to Disney World and try to stay out of the snow! Here in Eustis the high has finally gotten up to 35. Reeses (daushund) is chasing a ball inside our small mobile home to get some exercise! Barbara in Eustis, FL

Frozen pipes and snow..... I can'r evev imagine that.

Our expected high for tomorrow is 40 deg / 104 F. Thankfully where we are we usually only get one hot day like that at a time then it cools down. Many places will get it for a week or more.

We woke up to 2F here this morning. Last nite the DD and BF did my driveway, shoveled, salted nice, nice.

well. I got the wrong Salt.

The surface on the blacktop melted, then slushed, then re-froze.

Needless to say, I couldn't get out of the driveway this morning for my Saturday Sampler Class at the LQS, Had to wake my neighbor up for some more salt, still no luck. I slid the car into the snowbank at the bottom of the hill. My driveway is straight up for 100 yards or so at a 30Degree angle and the garage is at the bottom.

No Fun At All.

Finally got them to push me up and out!!! yeay!! I was finally able to get to the LQS for the late class and to lunch w/ an old friend. The sun came out and all that salt did it's job! We also had someone coming today to view the house. (it's for sale) So, after all that, i finally got home around 6pm. In my flannels and going to watch some TV, and go to bed. I'm Pooped!!! =)
