What beautiful creatures they are. I am so envious of your encounter with the wolves. Thank you for sharing those pics, Toni.

I wish! They are wolves that live at a non-profit teaching sanctuary called Wolf Park. They have a website. You can sponsor a wolf for 1 year, and as part of the package, you get to visit with them and have pics taken. Toni

that's so cool that you are doing that, and following through with the visits. It's must be an awesome experience being around them. Cindy

It was awesome. You just don't understand how much bigger they are than domesticated dogs. It was also rainy that day, and Kailani was laying in a hole she had dug. I expected her to smell, well, like a wet dog. But she didn't. No smell at all. I even got to meet the alpha, or head, of the pack. Toni

I'm curious, where did the wolf get the name Kailani? Did you know it's Hawaiian for Beautiful (lani) Ocean (kai) -- sort of. Actually, kai means salt water and Beautiful Ocean is a much nicer translation than Salt Water Beautiful :-). CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Toni, Thanks for posting. The photos brought back memories for a dog I once adopted from a shelter in NC. I was informed later that she may have been part wolf. Seeing the way the wolf sat & the expression on the face was so much like my Sable. She was a very important part of my life for 16 1/2 years. I still miss her terribly, even after 5 years.

Pat, We used to live in Florida, and I have gone to Busch Gardens-Tampa quite a bit. I do belive I can blame them for my addiction to roller coasters and fast, crazy rides! These wolves are not injured or rescued. But they may have started that way. They do allow them to breed, which keeps the pack going. They have a retirement center and a smaller pack for the older wolves. If I am not mistaken, there are about 20 adult wolves, as well as coyote, fox and bison. On Sundays, from May to November, they do what is called Bison Demonstrations. They simulate a hunt with the pack to show how they work together and how the bison defend themselves. It is really neat! Toni
