OK, I need help. I have a customer who brought me a quilt to quilt and the batting has scrim on one side. Does this side go toward the top or the backing? I don't usually use this type of batting.........mine usual does not have this rough stuff in it.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'scrim' but I usually put the clearer/smoother/more even side toward my top if there happens to be a difference in the batting.

Hey Laurie:
The scrim or rough side of batting goes towards the back. If you are going to machine quilt then you would help yourself if you sprayed the scrim with silicone. This will help the needle to go through the batting a lot better and less likely to shred thread. You can buy the silicone spray at Hancocks. Sullivan's makes it. Believe me this stuff works.

Thanks, Kate. I am using a mid-arm quilting machine so the sandwich goes together as I quilt. When would I use the silicone spray?
