Four days of quilting heaven

Hi all

Well, as a teacher, you can imagine that I look forward to Thanksgiving. A break before the end of the semester rush. What also makes it special is that my guy likes to do the cooking during the holidays so that means that I have lots of time to sew. Four whole days, well almost.

First I finished a Jinny Beyer stuffed soccer ball in school colors for my Nephew whose team just won the state soccer championship in Michigan. Go Titans.

Then on to the reverse applique, stained-glass fireweed. Please, someone shoot me if I ever try this style of quilting again. It is just not me. I will finish it though as I really like the quilt. I've gotten all the colors sewn in place and I layered and pinned today. I'll have all evening tomorrow night to start machine quilting as Bert mans a help desk every other Monday. I'm going to outline quilt all the flower parts and stipple the background sections. I'm hoping to make great progress. I WANT THIS ONE DONE! Anyways, I will be sure to post a picture when I am all finished. It is quite stunning if I do say so myself.

So, this week my students and I get to finish PowerPoint to get ready for their practical final in computer class, finish insurance and start investing in Personal Finance, start the Viking Marine simulation in Accounting, and begin the final tweaking before presentations in Web Design. Help! Only three weeks left until finals and we need more. Isn't that typical. Always more that I want to cover and never enough time. Oh well.

Hope all your weeks go well.

Man, I wish!! Vacation from school means my oldest is home and even less time than before to quilt. Your project may be a pain to do, but it sounds like it will be a beauty when its done, and well worth the effort. Good luck with the quilting.

Well done! But if reverse applique ever tempts you again, you're on your own. (How could I ever pull the trigger on such a telented quilter?) Roberta in D

Your quilt sounds gorgeous, Steve! I think we've all at least started a quilt we later decided just wasn't "us" -- good luck!

Hi,

if you ever feel tempted again, you could try the technique I used for this pattern (if yours is amenable to this modification), which was originally reversed aplique: I cut the background pieces, fused them in place, and then did the leading with fusible tape. it wasn't my idea, but the teacher's - it is stiff, so it only works for WHs....:
