OT You can tell Halloween is coming

DD3 was chasing through the house in an absolute panic trying to catch our Jiji-chan. So I scooped him up and he clung on to me and gave her one of those patented cat "What the heck is wrong with you!" looks.

As best I can tell it happened like this:

1) After 18 years of just having a half a window and a storm window over the kitchen sink, the landlord's man just pulled out the old window, rebuilt the whole frame, and installed a standard sized window.

2) Jiji discovered the new windowsill and adopted it as a favorite perch.

3) Last night DH Tried out a new fake blood recipe that involved gelatin and glycerine (thereby making it a little more resistant to water than the typical corn syrup recipes). He played with it for a little bit, then plopped the custard cup he made it in into the sink to soak.

4) Ash came home from school, and finding the custard cup pulled the semi-hardened remains out and left them lying in the sink, along with a paper towel fragment that went astray when he wiped out the cup and set it on the sideboard.

5) DD went to wash the dishes and discovered the semi-coagulated goo with a bit of now pink paper towel lying in the sink under Jiji's favorite perch.

6) DD flies into a complete panic thinking Jiji's insides are coming out of one end or the other.

The new blood recipe has been deemed an unqualified success.

One of our wood stains looks exactly like blood that is just starting to dry a bit. Dip a rag into that and into a red stain that looks like fresher blood, then wrap around your hand. Screams of anguish really enhance the effect.

Er, not that I would ever do that sort of thing... ;-)

I'm trying to convince DH to make this

for me for Halloween. So far, he's not going for it. *sigh*

Halloween! We cannot afford to go to Dracula's Ball, some year soon we will I hope, so it will be a stay at home and see who we can scare the bejeebers out of. DD1 and Damien will be here, and DH is trying to get her to let him do Damien up as an undead baby. Night of the Living Dead-Resident Evil type zombie. DD is more inclined to put him into a pumpkin suit.

Well, I can't think why not. Doing it would keep him occupied for hours... ;)
