Ozark Piecemakers Guild Show - Sept 21-23

Yes, I'm still planning our weekends in September. This looks like a good sized show with over 400 quilts and a special men's exhibit. Any one been before? Tips??

Jan-

I've attended a good half-dozen of those shows- very, very nice! Not big enough to exhaust you, but lots of variety and very good skill levels. Certainly enough vendors to satisfy, as well. Let me know what day(s) you'll be there and I'll make of point of going the same time. I'd just love to get to meet you in person.... and Jess, too!

Uhm.... well... there's no tactful way to say this... but given the tone of your previous posts and your feelings about children.... you do realize the Jess is my 4 year old child... right....

I will try to talk DH into going to this. I think we may be in Arkansas sometime that month so why not go to Missouri also? Maybe we could arrange a meetup?

Only if you try to touch the quilt without your white gloves But she gives a warning yell to "no touch that" first ;p

You may already be familiar with their fabric and patterns, but Liberty Homestead ( libertyhomestead.com ) will have a booth there. Be sure to not miss it.

I love, love , LOVE their stuff. They are located somewhere up by KC, but I don't think their store is open very often, they must do most of their work at shows.

They caused me a lot of damage in Wichita, and I expect Springfield to be no different.

Well I breezed by them a few times at MQS.... but the price on their featherweights made me keep moving... but now that you've pointed me to their webpage.... they are right around the corner from me.... and not much is right around the corner from me. They don't appear to have regular hours though. And now I know why I can't find any featherweights locally lol....

Lol... Great minds think alike! Actually... we have friends from Peoria IL that we meet around the St. Louis area every fall in a state park and camp... so ... that might just cover that weekend... oops... I got lost on the way into town and there was this quilt show Or there is suppose to be a wonderful zoo and aquarium in St. Louis and my daughter is a fish fanatic... so....another option. The other one I think is closer, has more quilts, not weather dependent and has an exhibition on men in quilting that I think my DH would really get into. As well as Bass Pro Shop which has a HUGE aquarium with natural fish to the area.... and DD just loves that place lol. There's a weekend in between to recuperate

Were THEY the ones with the FW's? I didn't even notice them. Maybe because I'm not in the market. All I could see were those darling quilts and that fabric that I love so much. It looks and feels like suede.

Wouldn't it be fun to have a retreat at their place? We talked about it at the Guild Bored meeting last night.

I love the St Louis zoo. And it's FREE. Can you imagine? I liked it better than the San Diego zoo. I used to like the KC zoo, but they kind of messed it up the last time they redid it, I thought. You have to walk miles to see a sign of an animal.

I haven't been to the St. Louis Zoo, but I have heard nothing but good things. The KC Zoo is being re-vamped again. Everyone had the same complaint and the director was let go about a year ago. I've heard some of the newer areas are open, but I haven't been there... this fall when it cools off, we'll be out there.

And yes, I checked with DH, and they were the ones with tons of featherweights in front of their booth at MQS... and MQS is stiff competition lol.... Superior Threads, Gammill and Quilter's Rule ended up with the majority of my $$. And I'm always in the market for an older machine. Metal parts, easy to fix, no computer... LOVE them... but so does everyone else around here, so you have to be fast. :-)

My LQS has a Featherweight on consignment for $350. I tried it out because its getting harder and harder to haul my Viking in and out of the back of the Explorer. I have a wheeled case which means I can drag it up the sidewalks. Now I just need a lift to get it over lintels and tailgates. :-p

I thought it sewed a nice stitch, but there were no attachments and the gold was kind of worn. The shop owner thought I should offer $300. I haven't made up my mind. It still won't solve all my problems. We have a workshop on Monday and we will use the buttonhole stitch, so I will need to drag that huge machine when we have something like that. I love sewing on the Viking so much that I don't know if I will ever be happy with a machine that doesn't work that way. It's been a long time since I had to lower the presser foot or cut my own thread.

I don't know, I just don't know.

Well, Taria and Irene as well as a few others can tell you what attachments are available and what's a good price. Most of the vintage machines only do straight stitches, but that's all I need most days. I have a computerized machine, but what I have found is that they don't feed the heavier weights as well and quite honestly, aren't as fond of dealing with heavier bulk. So when you start feeding thru the final peicing of a large quilt, you just can't beat a vintage machine. At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it ;-) As for the lintels and tailgates... well... go get yourself a ridgeline with that easy side opening tail gate and a ramp from harbor frieght... or in the very least a sturdy peice of shelving.
