Singer 301's are going for nearly nothing on Ebay right now. If I didn't have 3 already I'd buy one for back up sewing. They are great for piecing and wasy to carry to classes IMO. Taria

Maybe think about one of the new machines? I dislike dragging my heavy machine to classes or retreats, and find it harder and harder to do. When they came out, I got a Janome Gem--11 pounds. However, it only did the straight stitch, which was pretty limiting. A year later, they came out with the Janome Platinum, and I traded up. Still

11 pounds, but computerized, and has 60 stitches, needle up/down, and tie off. There is a quilter's package that the dealer supplied with the machine--provides a walking foot and a quarter inch foot. I have taken it to 2 retreats, and loved it. I know someone who actually uses it as her only machine. A bit small in the throat of the machine if you do big quilts, though. Sonja in Red Deer.
