Why not use the red on the top and use a rose pink on the bobbin thread? I do two-colored sewing fairly often: if you get the titch properly balanced, it works a treat.

huh? cant you use different colour in the bobbin for the back? what am i missing? I don't know Polly, but some accidents can be happy accidents. I once cut the pieces of the block from the wrong fabrics--meaning that fabrics that should have been different fabrics were the same, and some that should have been the same were different. I almost didn't put the block together. But I was curious, so went ahead and pieced it, and when it was done, it was pretty cool. So maybe you need to go wild on your thread color--then pretend it was a plan. :-)

PS I almost always end up with 2 different colours: I would never use my Rayon and variegated threads on the back of a quilt!

Why not use red in the needle, and maybe white in the bobbin? I've done that, and it seemed to work OK for me!

That is what I do, and if I get a white dot on the top, I use a red pigma pen to color the dots. Anna Belle in Palm Bay

Actually, Roberta, I did that. I used white in the bobbin to go nicely with the pastel rosebuds on white, and I used a light beige on the top. If I had used red on the top (as I had hoped to) the top thread would have left a trail of red pinpoints in the stitching on the backing. More than you wanted to know, I expect. As long as the quilt is good to chew on, baby won't care. I was just hoping to warn you all that it's a good idea to carefully consider which fabric you use for a backing IF the quilt is a . . . what? serious one? Polly
