Piggie Update and on topic question (Chicago area)

Still wombling thru rehab. House is on the market, trying to pack the contents while walking with a walker---interesting process. For a variety of reasons, the first place I need to pack up absolutely is the quilt room. I'm going to try to leave out some fq's to do log cabin baby quilt tops to keep myself sane in rehab/house selling, but the rest gets packed up....

So here's the question: there's going to be more stuff coming out of the quilt room that I want to get rid of, but in the uncertain process of early divorce, I can't afford the postage to give it away to RCTQers, and being still on the walker and having limited travel energy, cannot really box it up/haul it to the post office, either.

I can ship it off to Goodwill. I'd also be willing to bag it up and hand it over to any local RCTQer who would like to come by and pick it up, either for their own use or distribution elsewhere. I need to know if anyone's interested in doing that. (I'm also mondo open to any local RCTQer coming by for tea and chat anytime while I'm beating on this process.....)

I'm not sure what all will be involved. I know some panels will be, and probably also a number of books. Beyond that, won't know till I make it thru the whole room.

Beyond that, I finally talk to a lawyer Wednesday for the first time. It looks like I'll be graduated from rehab about a week into April; by then I hope to be moving boxes to self-storage in Indy and looking at houses. If everything went *perfectly*, the house would be sold by then, but not holding my breath. :)

Anyhow, I'm mostly keeping it all together, although it's not clear to me always *how* I'm doing that. I'd say 90% of the time I'm doing well, and the other 10% of the time it's pure shellshock.

You sound like you are muddling through everything, but sometimes it is easy to hid things while writing. Hugs to you piggy, and I hope there are some RCTQers close by to lend a hand. Goodwill sells stuff to paper mills for processing. They can't put out everything that is donated to them, so I would think giving it to someone that can use it would be much better.

I have been through 3 divorces (don't ask) and I am still sane, at least that's what I keep telling everyone. Hugs again.

If you do not hear from any rctq'er, you might call a local church/ religious organization that does charity quilts. Or call a LQS to see if they know of a group.

Maybe someone from Project Linus? Donna is the pro about that. Local guilds that do charity work is another option.

I can't speak for all Project Linus chapters, but either me or one of my volunteers have picked up fabric from people's homes several times when the person donating was unable to deliver to one of our dropoff sites.

Keeping your chin up seems to be your motto!It is a very stressful time under normal circumstances to move house so give yourself a pat on the back!

Sorry to hear of your troubles and hope you womble through them quickly. Libraries are very happy to receive books and local churches often have need of fabric, for charity or costumes for youth groups, etc. Freecycle is an alternative as well. I park stuff on the porch for pickup and usually don't have to see a soul who comes to get it. Hugs,

Wish I could hop a plane and come give a hand. Sounds like a monumental task, Piglet, and one better suited to a three or four person team! Sending healing thoughts and prayers and hugs, and all the energy I can spare, from Tucson.

Go to yahoo and under groups they have a freecycle group. I signed up for the local ones in my area and you can ask for stuff, give stuff away and this would be a plus as somebody could come and get it. I gave away my computer monitor on there and it went quick. I also adopted a beautiful cat ready for the pound because the guy couldn't take his cat to his new apartment. Freecycle is a great group. Don't be so quick to give all of the sewing stuff away...you'll heal from both and the fabrics will need you!! Pami

You might also call the local 4-H office/group. Most of them are very relieved to get donations of fabric. Or Project Linus in your area. Girl Scouts, or if there is a "One Dress At a Time" or similar group that makes clothes for kids in lower income areas are other suggestions. Many of these groups would probably have someone who would come by to pick up donations of fabric. Wish I was nearby to come help you pack. If you need to talk you know you can always talk here or privately with any of many of us. I've only been through one divorce.... and it was a mutual thing, but I do understand the hurt and the shell shock. Hugs and a shoulder are here if needed.

Our local nursing home is always looking for fabric-they have a very active activities dept. You might check with one in your area. Gen
