Ping Jeanne - J* - EQ question

Jeanne, Since you are our resident techno wizard - how do I export an EQ5 quilt to a jpg file? I saw you mentioned the other day that you had saved a block you had done and would upload to the group. I've done a design for my niece that I was to email to my SIL before investing any more time to see if she likes it.

Thanks, Kim in rainy NJ

Glad you climbed in, Doc. Jeanne is at least 6 hours ahead or behind us (one of them) and probably hasn't had her coffee yet. Polly

It's quite a bit different in EQ5, you have to: File> Export Snapshot (or click on the camera tool) then you get a magnifying glass icon where you have to clickand drag a box around the quilt, at which point you have to choose to save, copy or print. Your choice to save is only as a bitmap file (no jpg), but you can also copy to the Windows clipboard and paste it into a Windows application. EQ version 6 eliminated quite a few of these steps and added more save options.

The easiest way to avoid all the hassle of EQ5 is to just do a screenshot, (Ctrl > PrtSc) paste in Paint and then select and save as the kind of file you want.

Mickie, Thanks for those tips. I was doing the 'export snapshot' command but the software just sat there and stared at me. Never got magnifying glass or anything beyond it, hence, my issues. I'll just do the screenshot and be done with it. Much easier.

Doc, No apologies necessary. I know a lot of folks here have various EQ versions and would probably jump in to help. I'm grateful, actually, since as Polly said Jeanne is somewhere ahead or behind us and proabably hasn't had her coffee yet!

I don't use EQ all that much so I'm not intimately familiar with all of it's quirks. I'm also not much of a designer (not at all, actually) so I usually just end up re-doing a pattern, fiddling with it for a bit and then work out some color images to see where I want to go. And hope that the yardage estimate is somewhat close.

You never know. You figure if it's posted on a public forum/Usenet, anyone is entitled to respond by virtue of that public nature, but I've been chastised (in other groups) because the post was specifically addressed to an individual. Ya just can't win... ;-)

oh and for the record i am always ahead of everyone timewise but always behind everyone in everything else. i live in the first time zone just west of the int'l date line that runs down the middle of the pacific ocean. go google anyone who has read this and is totally confuddled. its the best i can do at the moment. iirc, i'm now 5hrs behind and a day ahead of usa pacific coast time zone, if that helps anyone. now can i please finish my breakfast...day old french bagette french toast with hot stewed apple/plum covered in greek yogurt and drizzeled with maple syrup. yummy and delicious and i'm not sharing, so there. make your own if your hungry. j.

Thanks Jeanne. I was able to get a pic to my SIL w/Mickie's instructions. I have your email that I'm going to check later to see if I just missed the step about grabbing the image. Your instructions were very clear, but I'm on DH's laptop currently and the EQ is upstairs on the other computer so I'll check all that out in a bit. SIL likes the design BTW and I think the Little Miss will love the quilt. Got a bit more work to do in EQ for sizing, etc. then I can get yet another project started. That will make 5 quilts in various stages. Yikes! I'm not usually like that. I usually have 2-3 at most in different stages going at once. I just finished quilting the king sized from hell - need to get and attach binding; starting to quilt the queen. These both need to be completed by mid April. Have another to quilt that a friend gave me that she started and hates but at a quick glance, I really like. Still piecing the 'christmas pickle' paper piecing class and now this one. Hopefully this queen one will go quickly and I won't get as frustrated as I did w/the king. All that and travelling as well. 2 trips down - 2 to go. At least I can take this w/me on #2, not sure about #1.
