Also - I would need some insight on ordering from across the Pacific!! Certainly there is a currency issue -- but would shipping costs be exhorbitantly high? I've never done any over seas purchasing.

Kate, There were 4 positive reports & 1 ex-retail store owner whom we could email for information. One reply said many of their products are imported so you should find them cheaper in the US. The exceptions were the NZ made items. Email them for postage prices as they are only 50 m from the Post Office

I've searched and searched for the variety of longstitch patterns that they have here in the US -- with no luck!

I can't believe that there aren't more to be found... but I'm sure not finding them!

This is a UK shop I can recommend, though they don't have as big a range as Golding. However their ordering system is very helpful when it comes to cost/postage (I entered a made-up name and address in the US and it gave the reduced price (no Value added tax for you), and a postage charge which seemed very reasonable. They also converted the cost to $ so you could see it in 'your' money.

Worth a look just for interest.

I used Wye when we lived in Nottingham pre the 'quilt bug'! There was nothing there at all except the ever-shrinking John Lewis! Now I have 2 quilt shops within reasonable distance, but would be using Wye's mail order if I still embroidered! (Yes I have UFOs in that department too!!)

Can you do hand work at all? Maybe a small embroidery (I LOVE tiny cross stitch butterflies. Have one that is 1.5 " x 1 ".set in an oval cardstock. Have it up on my Bulletin Board where I can enjoy it every day)

Or maybe a small needlepoint?

It is as if my get up and go, has got up and went. I have no inclination to do much at all. My last attack was when I had been planting bulbs and now have been told not to bend down. Neither can I sweep up anywhere. Too much moving of the arms.

I have a leaking valve, bundle branch block, ectopic heart beats caused by having the stents put in. I also have Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation that causes my heart to beat in excess of 160 beat per. Min. This is when I get taken into hospital because whilst the attack is on, blood can pool in my heart and clot. If this happens I could have a major stroke. They keep me in and try various medications to get it back down to normal heart rate before they send me home.

I have not been able to do any quilting because large items are beyond me. I have got rid of a lot of my fabric and also other craft materials. The other quilt I made is on DH's bed and I will never get to make one for my bed.

I have not done much bead work either. Hugs Shirley

another question from me... i checked the rate of VAT in the UK. as of Dec 1, 2008 it is set at 15%. is that included in prices on websites there? our 12.5% GST (goods and services tax) is included in the price show. when you buy online from another country you dont have to pay that so it reduces the price by that much. always a help. also the exchange rate on the different currencys might make a difference. everything out of NZ goes by airmail but i'd think those dont weigh much so shouldnt be too bad on the postage. tho checking first is always the best policy.

No, Hay on Wye is across the other side of the country, almost in Wales. If you draw a straight line from Hay you reach the part of the East Coast where I live. Google Earth is your friend!! Don't know why the shop is called Wye - the owner's name? The shop is much further north in Derbyshire, near where I used to live 8 years ago.

The VAT is always shown in the price (15% now - reduced to try to get us to spend more in the crisis) but when I put the destination as USA the price reduced, so presume it was automatically taken off.

The exchange rate has been in the UKs favour in a big way until recently, but things have changed! Postage they gave looked quite reasonable

ok, VAT included til you put in USA destination, then removed. automatic is clever and handy. they do the same here. i dont think they do that in USA. can anyone clear this up? if we order stuff from USA websites that is going outside the USA is there no sales tax on it? hmmmm, come to think of it i do recall seeing on some sites if you dont live in the state the site is in then you dont pay that state sales tax. i presume tis the same if you live outside the USA, no sales tax. seems there must be someone on here who owns a retail website. j.
