John, you posted recently that you bought lots of solid colors from Marshall Dry Goods - was it the Quilters Blenders you bought? I need to get some good basic solids or something that reads solids for our Project Linus quilts. We get lots of fabrics donated, but not ever very many solids that we can coordinate with all the prints.

I bought the solids from them as listed on their site as 45" Cotton Solid Broadcloths

Here is the link and I hope it works as a direct link.

they seem to be as cheap as you can get for decent weight cotton solids as I have found. some of the solids from TSWLTH are so thin you can read the newspaper through them.

Is broadcloth the same as the cotton we use? I thought it was a little thicker/rougher.

Thanks! I've bought fabric before from Marshall Dry Goods & have been very pleased with their fabric & service.

Next question - has anyone bought polyester batting from Marshall Dry Goods? I'm starting to run low on batting. One of our volunteers bought several rolls for us about a year ago, it's just about gone, so I'm looking for good batting at reasonable prices. I do not like the roll batting at JoAnns, so we try to buy online wherever we can find good stuff at good prices.

I don't think of broadcloth as "rough". It is more akin to shirting but a little more substance. It has a "Good Hand" in the parlance of the clothing industry. Meaning it feels more substantial than say gingham. I have a number of mens dress shirts which are made of broadcloth and they feel super smooth and wonderful. Anyway, the stuff we are talking about has a little more body than the stuff you normally get from JoAnne's. More like the stuff you get from your local quilt shop but at a great reduction in price. My local shop hardly stocks any solids anyway, so I don't feel like I am forgetting them.

I have not bought any batting but when I run out I intend to do so from them. If you do buy some let us know what you think.
