Airtex batting

I'm on the hunt again for decent batting for our Project Linus quilts. The batting I ordered from Marshall Dry Goods we did not like that well. I just talked to Batt Mart and was going to order the Hobbs Poly. The man at Batt Mart suggested Airtex which is $6 cheaper per roll. He said that his customers all speak well of it. The Airtex won't cost as much to ship since it comes from Minnesota which is closer to Idaho than Texas! However, it will still cost $125 to ship 5 rolls of Airtex batting.

So, my question is - has anyone used Airtex poly batting? What did you think of it?

One of the things I didn't like about the Marshall Dry Goods batting other than the quality wasn't nearly as good as Hobbs was - they shrink wrap it two to a package. When you open the pkg to get one roll out the other roll explodes, too. Since we're limited on storage space having this huge roll that seemed to keep growing was not good!

Wish we could afford poly/cotton, but we can't, so want to get the best quality poly I can get at a fairly reasonable cost.

Donna, I ordered a 'bargain' from Batt Mart that was no bargain. It was so bald in spots that it was a pain in the neck to try to use. Instead of shipping it off to Jill, I decided that the dogs wouldn't like it either and stomped the whole case in the dumpster. I don't think the brand was Airtex but don't know what it was. Batt Mart is where I buy all my batting and I'm not slamming them; just thought you'd want to buy just a little of the Airtex first to check its quality. Polly

Polly, what brand do you buy? For the extra $6 per roll, I would rather buy the Hobbs, except he said the shipping would be quite a bit more for Hobbs. We go through so much batting, I need bargains! We quit buying batting at TSWLTH. Even though it was cheaper - it was cheap!

Donna, I'm not smart enough to find the invoice. I believe that Batt Mart might be one of those that doesn't actually invoice by their name or ship from their 'store'. I believe the shipping and the billing come from whatever factory the batting comes from. So. I've looked backwards for months but simply cannot identify the offensive batting. I wish I could. I would truly love to be more helpful. Polly

HI Julia,

I bought Hobbs batting that way a couple times. The first shipment was great, the second was awful. The problem is, you don't have any choice - they send whatever they want to send. After the second time, I didn't get any more from them.

I know someone who bought a tablerunner width roll of Airtex and likes it. However my LQS said they do not order their batting anymore because of the impurities in it....seeds, whatever. They said....Airtex was a stuffing company and just recently got into batting and haven't totally perfected it yet. So take it from there....I'm in Wisconsin, there's an Airtex Distributor in our town...but it's not widely used here. Again....I have not used it so this is just hearsay.

I solved the problem by talking to one of the quilt shops in the area. She's going to order batting for me through her store. I decided to go with the Hobbs poly. It's more expensive than the Airtex, but with Hobbs I know what I'm getting. When you make as many quilts as we do, you at least want something easy to work with. Thanks for the info.
