Thanks for the link. I have spent some time using a loom in years gone by, but I always bought spun yarn and then wove it into something. The thought of making the yarn before starting weaving is interesting, if daunting. I will never raise sheep due to lack of interest in keeping animals, but there are plenty of my nearby neighbors who do and they probably would be a source for raw wool. There was a book, long out of print, that was by a guy by the name of Ralph Borsody who wrote about his return to the land experiment during the depression of the nineteen thirties. I remember a picture of him sitting at the loom weaving while wearing a suit that he made from wool he got from sheep he raised and then wove into cloth and then sewed into the suit he was wearing for the picture. I am not sure if he made the loom or not but it was, even then, quite an accomplishment. There used to be a large interest in weaving circles about using natively acquired natural dyes from plant matter as part of the "natural back to the land" movement of the early 1970's. Boy does that date me. I built a couple of looms for people who were into that scene and got interested in weaving then and built myself one, also. The pressing demands of business caused my enthusiasm to wane and the loom was sold off and the idea put on the back burner for the last 35 years till now, when I have time and space to devote to these space hungry pursuits. I used to love to sit at the loom and create cloth from the rhythmic motion of weaving. It is very a very calming, and mesmerizing pursuit.

That is most interesting Liz. I do have a spinning wheel and have spun in the past. This has spurred me on to start again.
