Leslie & The Furbabies in MO.
Thank you, Leslie. That's a nice place. I don't know about 'Minky' . . . the one I love is Minkee made by Benartex. Some 'as good as' are not quite as soft and light as Minkee. Have you tried the Minky? Opinion? Anyhow, the threadart folks have the silk ribbon I've been needing. My usual source requires that I place a $50 order for a good price and I really don't want that much. Polly
Polly, I have to mention a new line of silk ribbon. That is if you are talking about ribbon for silk ribbon embroidery.... Check the ribbon on the Superior Threads website. I have some of it and it is wonderful. And it is variegated!!! Wonderful for flowers and such because it changes intensity/color along the ribbon. I'm playing with silk ribbon embroidery by machine in order to teach a class on it. The shop doesn't yet carry the Superior threads brand of ribbon, so I am going to have to make do with some of the YLI ribbon. sigh.
(There is a wonderful book Simple Silk Ribbon Embroidery by Machine written by Susan Schrempf. Wish she had offered to sell us the book before the class we did on it up in Utah. ) One advantage of doing it by machine is that virtually all the ribbon stays on the top of the fabric. You don't end up with a bunch of it hidden on the back side of the piece.
Pati, > Thank you, Leslie. That's a nice place. I don't know about 'Minky' . . .
No, Pati. I travel an entirely different road. I use the silk ribbon for ties for preemie shirts for wee guys who weigh about 3 pounds. Their fragile little bodies aren't ready for snaps, buttons or velcro. Silk ribbon embroidery is gorgeous and I enjoyed it. Just not very practical for something Daddy's going to toss in the washer with the jeans and towels. Polly
