Ping: Queen of scissors!

Ms P, I have a question for you. My lovely pair of Dovo stork scissors came in a little plastic sleeve -- not at all what these scissors deserve. Do you have a source/link for scissor sheaths? I'd like one (not metal -- probably leather) for these lovely scissors, but my googling attempt has come up with nothing but scissor sheaths containing scissors.

This site has some nice leather sheaths.

I think it's the only place I've seen you could buy just sheaths. Be forewarned, she has some drop dead gorgeous scissors!!

Thanks, Jeanne, but it's the same story as when I googled. :(

Thanks, your Majesty. ;) I've written them to see which sheath they recommend. :)

I don't know either, Jeanne. I think it would depend on what the purpose of the sheath is. If you're going to be dropping them from a ladder, you would want to get serious and prevent them from opening and/or damaging the blades and points. If they stay quietly in the sewing room, just plain U/S should do fine. The only scissors here that travel are my embroidery ones. I just slip their points in what I think is a point protector for knitting needles. It looks much like a big pencil eraser and keeps me and the scissors for getting hurt. All of my Ginghers arrived with leather sheaths but I rarely remove the cases from their boxes; just haven't seen the need except, of course, when I ship them back to the nice Gingher folks for sharpening. Another easy solution is to go to Hobby Lobby or JoAnn's and buy a fairly cheap pair of scissors that come with a leather sheath and use it on the good scissors. Hobby Lobby used to have some that were about 3 bucks which is probably cheaper than the ones you can order.

Thanks for the idea, Pat. I wish I'd seen it before I ordered a leather sheath. LOL!

I did find a pattern online that recommended U/S for making scissor sheaths, but I didn't have any on hand; it seemed to me to be just about as expensive to buy the U/S as to buy a sheath.

As it turns out, the people at Silent Stitches are *really* nice to deal with! I wrote them last night to ask which of the sheaths they'd recommend for my particular scissors, and they recommended the least-expensive one on the site. :D On top of that, they've also offered to send me both sheaths that might fit so that I can see which I prefer; I'll just send back the one I don't want to keep. How nice is that? As I told them, you don't often see people willing to do such things for a total stranger these days. :) BTW, they're also *very* prompt about answering emails. I should have my order within less than a week, but if their shipments are as good as the rest of their service, I suspect I'll be *very* tempted to buy scissors from them in the future! :D

Thanks again, Ms P, for giving me that link!

Taria, let me know what you'd like in exchange! If you feel like getting rid of some of your scraps, I'd probably better go ahead and make a sheath or two for some of my other scissors. :)
