QI - It never gets any easier

We said goodbye to our beloved GSD, Purdy, this afternoon.

It was the kindest thing we could have done.

She was 12, and in great distress. She went easily, in my arms.

But why does it have to hurt so much?

(((( Nel )))) It has to hurt so much because if it didn't, we wouldn't have hearts that feel and care. Remember that 'equal and opposite reaction' thing? If we love, give, care, somewhere along the line, that 'equal and opposite' means we will have the pain of loss. It hurts, but it's good hurt because it means you used your heart for s omething more than pumping blood.

Sunny holding you in my thoughts and prayers today.

You're so right, Nel. I'm sorry for your losing your much-loved pet. I have lost three of my cats in the last 10 months; and am anxiously looking each day at the next oldest. He is ill, and can't be 'cured'. So far he is in good spirits and not suffering. The comments about 'love hurts' are so true. But, I wouldn't miss the good times, just to avoid the goodbye pain - I'm sure you wouldn't either. Just never let yourself think that grieving for 'an animal' is 'wrong'. .

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here,

that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends

so they can run and play together.

There is plenty of food, water and sunshine,

and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.

Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,

just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;

they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops

and looks into the distance.

Her bright eyes are intent.

Her eager body quivers.

Suddenly she begins to run from the group,

flying over the green grass,

her legs carrying her faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,

you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.

The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,

and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet,

so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thank you, Di. I needed that. The hurt of letting a beloved QI go never ever goes completely away. Hugs and sincere sympathy to all who loved Purdy. Polly

I still cry when I read that poem. {{{{{Nel}}}}} I totally understand. My beloved Crikit has been gone for just over 2 years now and it seems like yesterday. Grieve, you need it. It does get easier. We humans have an inherit capacity to heal.

Hugs to you today. Tears for your Purdy and all our QIs. Remembering the family Snooky and my dear Tyler. My Tyler's collar hangs next to my computer. I just couldn't let that go. In fact I was looking through pictures last night and fondly recalling good times.

Here's a look down my memory lane. Dig the static pictures.

I'm sorry; I know it hurts. And why - others said so before; because you care. The price we pay for love. There's a hug for you.

Sorry to ask: What means QI and what means GSD?

U.

QI = quilt inspector. Usually 4-legged and furry. Some take quilt inspecting duties more actively than others and some assist quite a bit more than is truly helpful; all beloved. Polly

Thank you so much everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers.

I know I shall soon remember only the good times and the good stories.

I can only hope that I go as peacefully. She relaxed so thankfully in my arms. I can honestly say, she now knows peace and freedom from pain.

I can only hope there is bread in heaven. Her idea of purgatory would be an Atkins diet. She loved her carbs. Pear-shaped and proud of it.

Here's a toast to them all.
