The thing that drew me to quilting was the gorgeous and drooly array of fabric on the market. Rich colors and subtle, bold designs and Civil War repros. But as I get more into the "Quilting World" and look at more magazines and websites of contest winners, I'm becoming painfully aware that in recent years the trend is away from those gorgeous prints. Apparently, most of the big "winners" use hand dyes and batiks. Not necessarily solids, but those lovely swirly colors or gradations. Is this a trend, a fad, a movement? What do you folks think? Is the day of quilts made with gorgeous retail prints that win big contests over? (Please understand, I don't see myself entering contests. I'm just curious)
