Question about fabric boxes

I have the fabric box book, and I'm wondering if anyone here who has made any of these can help me a bit. I'm sort of thinking about making a diamond-shaped box to hold the diamond blocks I'm slowly hand piecing, but the only diamond-shaped box in the book is too small. Does anyone have any idea what sort of template measurements I'd need in order to make this box large enough to hold 4.5" x 7.5" diamond blocks? The sides of each of the 60° diamond blocks measure 5.75", if that helps, so the box would probably need to have sides of 6" or so. Thanks!

I have my box book here, and DH suggests that if you want a 6 inch diagonal edge and the current one is 3.5, you would just multiply all of the rest of the measurements by 1.71 inches also (6 divided by 3.5). Maybe you should try with paper to make sure it works, but that would mean if you want the sides to be 6 inches, you could cut: a 60 degree diamond 6" wide for box base

4 rectangles 6.84 x 8.1 for sides a 60 degree diamond 6.84 inch wide for the lid base and 2 rectangles 9.8 x 4.7 for the lid flaps

I really don't know if that will work, but it's my guess.

By the way, are you using the double-sided fusible timtex? If not, and you'd like to give it a try, i'm happy to send you a squishie (would that really squish?). I bought a lot of it around christmas time last year and made three boxes, all for other people (never got around to mine of course), and still havequite a lot left.

If you want a large amount, I'm also open to trading for any 14 1/2 inch squares of batik you might have lying around. :)

Why not just trace the blocks and add about 3/4" all around? Give the poor lil' blocks room to breathe!

And don't forget to allow extra around for the lid so it fits OVER the box

That's exactly what I want to do, Cheryl. But the book instructions give "funny" dimensions for the finished product, and I don't know how to adapt them to the size I want. :S

I haven't bought any timtex yet at all, Lynn! I'd love a squishie -- just tell me what color batik you're most interested in. :)

Bless your DH, Lynn! That's the sort of information I was looking for! :) I may even multiply by 1.75 -- just to give a tiny bit of leeway, you know. And your idea of trying it with paper had already occurred to me

-- I'm going to do it that way first, just to be sure. Thanks to both you and your DH! :)
