heart-shaped buttons

I'm doing my head in here! I am in need of four red heart-shaped no- shank buttons. Big ones. Sort of 20mm/1" across-ish.

Does anyone know where I can get hold of such things, please? I can get small ones, but I want big ones to put in the centre of a patch.

Doesn't matter what they are made of, just proper heart-shaped rather than skewy (if you see what I mean) and pillar-box red.

Looked everywhere (I think) and now at hair-tearing stage. Thought... someone here will know JUST where to go.

Can you beg from friends with button boxes? Surely somebody has some from a child's bathrobe from the 1950's and might be willing to swap . . .

I've seen them at WalMart, I'm sure. I'll be going to town tomorrow and can check again if you like.

I MAY have some in the button tin at home - I'll look after work.

I just Googled 'The Button Lady' (she is always at quilt shows I've been to). She doesn't have an ordering site, by the look of it, but the page there gives contact details and there appears to be a catalogue. Perhaps you could ring her about your sought-for buttons? . If all fails you can make your own using polymer clay. I did that when I wanted some leaf shaped ones for a cardigan. Shirley

I knew I had some on pages in my lists somewhere. Of course the ones I found first were too small, shank backed, or not red. Then I found the ones I remembered and that made me start wondering what on earth possessed me to favorite a site that wanted $50 for three buttons. Maybe they were gemstone when I first found them, but they were naught but glass when I just looked! I just gave up and ferreted the above links out of google.

I can vouch for M J Trim. That's where I buy my baby clothes buttons by the sack full. Nice company. Polly

Thanks, all. I'll give these a try. Couldn't come up with anything in UK other than the Button Lady, who, as you say, seems only to work from Shows. I may get to see her in August at NEC (DV) but I wanted them well before then.

Yes, I got some little ones over the weekend at our local Duttons for Buttons, which rarely lets me down, but it did this time.

I knew you lot would be able to magic some from somewhere. Now, let's hope they ship Internationally without a second mortgage!

I thought it looked as if she had a mail order catalogue, Nel. Have another look?

If not, it's not long until August! . In message , Sartorresartus writes

Do you want all 4 to be the same? I'll have to go check my button stash -- I *might* have 1 or 2 but I'm sure I don't have 4 the same that are that large. If you do need to order from someone here across the pond, simply have the buttons sent to one of us and then that person can mail them on to you. I'd offer but I'm off to Lizard Land next week and wouldn't be here -- sorry. Anyway, let us know if you need all 4 to be the same, OK? You could likely get 4 different ones from different people here :-). CiaoMeow >^;;^<

The two big ones with holes to sew would do just fine, and I can make do with two. This is a minor project and adjustments can be made. The dangly bead ones could sort the need for the other two. Thanks. If you don't need them, I would like them very much.

I found red hearts that are 1 and 3/8 large for $1.04. They also have a 6 count package for sale but I don't know the prict....nor their shipping charges.

I just got back from Wal Mart and found 7/8" hearts, 2 per card for 78c. They had 5 or 6 cards. The red is NOT what I call Candy Apple Red, but has a little orange in it. I will be glad to go back tomorrow if you think you can use these. Barbara in SC

And thanks everyone else, too. I knew I could count on you. Yes, I wondered about the Fimo, but my last forays into that were a complete disaster!

On another, related note... Isn't it strange how I could Google and get nothing, and others got miriads of hits straight off. Do you think it is something I said?

I better go an say sorry to the Google gods and plead for better service. Whaddya think?

Thanks everybody. I think I'm sorted now. I'll post photos of finished article to show you what I did with them.

Sometimes is is the difference between google.com & google.co.uk - the uk search gives a higher weighting to uk pages. Sometimes I'll use both googles to find a particular item.
