My heart is breaking

3 hours ago I sent my oldest furbaby across the rainbow bridge. Merryweather was 17 and had been with me almost me entire adult life. He had been loosing weight and spring in his leaps for the last couple of months. I wasn't sure when I left for work today that he would still be here when I got home. The look on his face when I got home told me what I had to do. I know it was the best thing I could do for a wonderful cat and companion, but it hurts so much. I still have my two younger furguys, but I know they don't understand where their big brother has gone. At least now his pain is over and he can once again do his astounding leaps. And maybe he'll get to catch one of those birds that has tormented him by being outside while he was stuck inside.

You did the right thing. It is so sad tho' when we have to lose our little friends. My boy George went missing last summer - I miss him so much - I'll always miss him, but he knew he was loved to pieces.

I'm so sorry to hear such sad news. Take comfort in knowing that you did the right thing and that he is at peace.

Mourn for your friend, and be comforted that he is no longer in any pain. He was loved and cared for throughout his life, and he would thank you for this last kindness. It is hard to let them go but sometimes it is the best thing we can do for them.

I am devastated by the loss of a furry friend, but I know they know I have always done my best for them, and I always take in another. None of my friends can be replaced. Each has a unique place in my heart. But I will always find room for another when the time comes.

Farewell Merryweather

I just wish there was a rainbow bridge for people. Ruby Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

It`s always so hard, Anne. I know just how you feel - but it`s the last act of kindness you can show them.

Hugs Anne - this is the most difficult moment when you give your love to a pet. Someone sent me this a few years ago.

If it should be, that I grow weak, and pain should keep me from my sleep. Then you must do what must be done for this last battle can't be won.

You will be sad, I understand, don't let your grief then stay your hand for this day more than all the rest your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years. What is to come, can hold no fears You'd not want me to suffer so the time has come, please let me go.

Take me to where my needs they'll tend. and please stay with me to the end. Hold me firm and speak to me until my eyes no longer see. Please do not grieve it must be you who has this painful thing to do. We've been so close, we two these years don't let your heart hold back the tears..

Oh Anne,

I'm so sorry. My Cocker-baby was 17 when I had to put him down and I know how much it hurts to let them go. It's the last good thing we can do for them, even if it's not what we want to do.

Cuddles to your other two and I hope your memories ease your pain.

(((((((((((((((((Anne)))))))))))))))))) That's one of the hardest things in life to do. When I sent my horse over 2 weeks ago, the only thing that made me feel better was knowing that she was no longer suffering and is now running with her old pal, Easter, who died 17 years ago. Take comfort in knowing that you'll see him again one day.

Last week I had to do the right thing and help my dear, dear Cleocatra cross the river Stx. She was 20. The grief we feel is in direct proportion to the love we shared. It hurts so much, but I willingly pay that price for the years of companionship and unquestioning love and acceptance.

All of us who have been in your shoes with a dear old furry friend feel for you. I have two very old kitties right now, and know that day will come soon for each of them--but as you say, wouldn't have missed one day with either of them. Dawne
