Question machine quilting w/ walking foot

I use the Sulky polyester monofilament when I want an "invisible" thread. Polyester will take quite a bit more heat than nylon. You can always attach a care label that says not to iron. I can't imagine anyone ironing a quilt anyhow.

Thank you to all the knowledgeable people here. I knew the look I wanted to achieve would be a lot of work........it would be different if it was a "me" quilt. As suggested I laid on thread in various ways and combinations. Carrying on the grid lines through the different colours isn't all that bad and something I can live with and be happy with. Only need 2 rows of quilting through each weave (wheww...thought I would need 3 initially) So it will be coordinating reds through the red weave, coordinating blues through the blue weave. And in my forethinking (sorry, can't be a word) I've pin basted so I won't have to remove pins as I go....extra bonus.

BTW.....been keeping track of my time making this beast.....67 hours so far

I have machines quilted this way, too. What I would also suggest is to stitch the backstitch at a smaller setting, locks the stitches from what I have read in all the books from the library and the ones I have at home. I have done 3 quilts this way, including the baby's quilt, and have washed it quite a few times. Nothing happened, which is good, since she can't sleep without it now. Let us know how it turns out! I don't see any reason why you can't do as you suggest, but trust me, it will be time consuming!! And that is one gorgeous quilt. How big are the little squares?
