Quilt Frame Plans

Aug 12, 2003 3 Replies

I recently saw a quilt frame with notches cut in the side rails to hold the "rolling bars" part of the frame. Has anyone used this type of frame? I have a picture of the one I saw at the Folk Center in Mountain View AR if anyone would like to see it. Are there plans available on the net for this type of frame?

My quilt group used one of theses frames and I can say that we as a group didn't like it. The quilt got too floppy in it and we thought it was hard to quilt using it.

Alex Anderson's Dad builds that type. His are two-rail though. You have to have the quilt already basted before you put it in. You might go to her website

and email her for his address. I'm sure she would respond.

I have one like that.... mine is an easy build by hinterberg. You can see it with a quilt on it at

If you are looking for one, make sure 3 bars instead of two. You can purchase the plans from Hinterberg and it comes with the hard to build hardware peices. I think some other companies offer similar things. Jan
