quilt info needed

This quilt has me fascinated, it appears to be the typical yo-yo quilt but it's not.

Run you mouse over the quilt for a close up, looks like the pieces are pleated, and then not joined together but sown onto a base.

My friend and I are having a discussion? over this, any thoughts?

I think they are yo-yos but the other way up to usual.

Yes, Giant Suffolk Puffs!! I wouldn't like to tackle ones of that size even with the gadget I got at the show yesterday, and think of the yardage they'd take.

Gees, haven't seen or heard of "puffs". Edna, it looks like we yet another new thing to learn! Donna

Thoughts? Oh my, yes. Thank you for showing that to us. It seems to be several sizes for the yo-yos and that they are slip-stitched to a light-weight base instead of to each other. A very interesting collection of colors/fabrics, don't you think? Should be easy to do if you can endure the repetition. That was fun. If you find anything else that unusual, please share with us. Howdy!

Yo-yos, different sizes, puckered-face up. Some of the fabric prints hide the puckering. Sewn on to a base, yes "stitched to a field of soft grey voile"; solemn. Interesting. "hand twisted rosettes" - they don't know much about quilts, do they? Just made up a term. "Imported" - that explains it. I prefer my yo-yos in one size, sewn to each other; more delicate but prettier, IMO.

I wasn't thinking of buying it, #1 They don't ship to Australia ..#2..I couldn't afford to buy it.

I was intrigued as to how they achieved the effect. Doesn't appear to be ordinary yo-yos/suffolk puffs to me, they are pleated with tight centers.

Thanks for all your thoughts though, I attempted a larger circle but it didn't look anything like theirs.
