quilt-related malware site warning

Marion was just looking for a new foot for her Janome 6500, so she googled "janome 6500 gathering foot". One of the sites that came up was weatherreportcard.com/eefjx/janome.php. When she clicked on the link, the thing came up with one of those "your computer is infected with viruses" dialogs that WOULD NOT go away (using Firefox on MacOS 10.4.11).

Beware. There is obviously something extremely sinister going on there. It was presumably trying to download a trojan.

That would be nice. Who's going to remove it from all the other search engines? (Not trying to be smart - just practical) I hit those things all the time - it's incredibly annoying. I wind up having to cut power & reboot to get my system back (a warm reboot won't do it). Strangely, I always seem to find them on quilting- related links when I'm looking for something particular. Could be a probability thing as I spend more time searching quilt stuff than other stuff - don't know.

Anyhow, I'll try your suggestion Jeanne - it can't hurt.

Doc

Do people really want them reported here on the group? I seem to hit one or two a month and don't want to be any *more* annoying than I have to be...

Howdy!

No, not really. But I can just move the mouse. Thing is, what hits some computers doesn't touch others.

... I'm just sayin'.... Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Quilting Weather has arrived; w/ snow to the west of us, it's time to pull up a quilt and.. quilt!

This *was* on a Mac - that was why I mentioned it. They had to be trying pretty hard to do that - the trojan itself wouldn't have done anything, but it looked like it was being downloaded.

Howdy!

If only "they" would use their powers for good.

I've run across a couple of these, managed to skip away unscathed, so far.

Good luck!
