Quilt retreat in danger

Oh ... I have paid for and reserved a week at a quilt retreat on the Oregon coastline the last week of April/first days of May with a dear friend who moved to Oregon a year ago. She called today. She is having terrifying health problems and probably can't make it to the retreat. The fee is non-refundable. The room is a double and I really can't afford to pick up her part, and I don't want to go alone. The whole point was to spend time with a good friend and sew, sew, sew. My sewing buddies here are either already planning travel or ... I know how awful this sounds, but I don't think I could spend a week in close quarters with most of them. (does this make me a bad person?)

I just found out and I'm sort of reeling.

I'm sorry to hear your friend is sick.

Why not call the retreat organizer and see if they have a single looking for a room-mate? I know the unknown is daunting, but sometimes it works out better than someone you know already - lower expectations I guess.

You can still have fun and maybe even make a little something fun for your friend who can't go.

Thank goodness for kind hearts! My deposit is being refunded. I'm going to Oregon when planned, but will be staying -- with my friend -- at a little place just a couple miles from her home. And her doctor and husband -- just in case. We will have the week to visit and sew and just be together, but she'll be safely near medical care if needed. I'm so very worried about her. She's an amazing artist and a wonderful person who absolutely hates anything to do with medical care, taking medicine or doctors. She takes herself off medication as soon as she starts to feel better. I'm really worried that if she does the same thing this time, instead of having an autoimmune flare she'll have a congestive heart failure attack and ... I'm worried.

If you've got prayers to spare, my friend could use some.
