Losing your money to a shady dealer is the least of the worries. Going to jail for buying prescription drugs illegally isn't the worst thing that could happen either. There are greedy and money desperate people in every country on the planet and they don't care how they get money, just that it's fast and easy, and the Internet scam is the easiest way today. There is serious risk of poisoning from being sold: out of date drugs found in a pharmacy dumpster, mis-formulated drugs being thrown out at a drug factory, recalled drugs that were removed from legal sale, drugs that have been tampered with, or fake drugs made from unknown ingredients.

A few years ago some folks in the US were buying well known expensive European wines through a black market Internet dealer somewhere south of the US border (I don't remember the specific country.), and they all became violently ill and died from the first swallow. Turned out that the "fine imported wine" was being made by the dealer and his family in a very unsanitary location. They gleaned wine bottles from the local town dump, and without even rinsing the bottles they applied forged labels, and filled the bottles with a concoction made mostly of non-potable water, rubbing alcohol, food coloring and flavoring.

Corn starch, food coloring, questionable water, hand carved pill press, and a pill bottle found in a town dump is all that is needed for the same sort of scam as the wine deal. Debra in VA See my quilts at

Now, go ahead and tell me how quilting isn't creative or artistic. No, really ... go ahead. I'm listening!! :)

I've been in your spot before, Sunny ... your problem isn't NOT having an artistic voice. Your problem (if I may be so bold) is that it *sounds* more complicated and .... ethereal ... than it is! As though "artistic voice" should be initial capped and spoken in a hushed whisper. Hopefully, the people that came up with the challenge didn't mean to title the challenge in such a ... prima donna-ish manner. If they did, Sunny, you're too damn talented to bother with them ... if they didn't, they should know the pressure that such a title would put on the average quilter (though I don't think there is such a thing!). I wonder how many other quilters might be put off and intimidated by the title?

I'm a bit sensitive to titles like those ... too many times, professionally, I've dealt with competitions and contests with those lofty titles. And I've seen talented designers/artists that were too intimidated to enter! :(

I've got one lap size quilt top that continues to grow (adding another border - it told me to). It's "Houndstooth" blocks in 30s fabrics alternated with plain blocks in muslin (to me, that looks 30s-ish - at least, that's what my Gramma made her quilts out of!). As I'm setting in the borders (3x5 inch strips all around), I'm trying to corral dog hairs. Last quilt I made, had dog hairs in the quilting stitches!! :)

I've got two tote bags (nearly done - have to pop in the lining and attach the handles - the least "fun" part) sitting on my work table. And I have a bevy of ornaments for the tree waiting to be stuffed and finished!

And last but not least, I have fabrics stacked up for a new Christmas tree skirt and new stockings!! That's a project for the weekend ...

Oh! And I was about to forget ... I have three preemie quilts that need to be bound!! :)

i finished some of the blocks from the BOM selection. i did two blocks of each of a choice of six. so i have 12 to put together. i'm deciding on a setting.not sure yet.

i have probably 20 or more tops to sandwich and quilt. but i have to go get more batting or order it online before i start. All the backs are done, just need batting.

ok, maybe a little OT:

well, i burned my lunch in the microwave today at work. then proceeded to burn my fingers. and then, since it was soo hot, i dumped it all over the floor in the break room. now i have to find some carpet cleaner.....is it friday yet? not too mention, it was microwave lasagne, and it now smells like puke. ( lost my appetite...)

there's always the stale pretzels in my bottom drawer.....sigh.... amy in CNY

Good grief ... you just HAD to remind me of a quiltin' friend so many years ago ...

To illustrate how calloused her hand-quiltin' finger was she would take a lit match and use her finger to put it out. You could SMELL the callous burning. Not a flicker of pain would cross her face. When my hubby met her and saw her fingers, he had serious reconsiderations 'bout bein' so supportive of my quilting.

Ugh. Now, *I've* lost *my* appetite!! That lasagne doesn't smell so bad now, does it?!

I think I mentioned my aunt bought a Handiquilter longarm and we've been quilting anything we don't have to chase down. :-) We got tired of "practicing" with sheet/batting sandwiches so we've made some simple, fast quilts (turning 20 and Sweet 16) to "practice" on. We got pretty full of ourselves when the ones we made with a groovy board turned out so nice. Now it's time to try pantograph and then freehand. I need a good source for cheap material. (maybe Freecycle?) Other than that, I'm in the middle of a "Grandma's Album" quilt. It's a moda pattern that uses

Hi all! Love this group, you all are full of so many great ideas!

I delurked a while ago, but don't post often and can't remember when so thought I'd do it again. My name is Laurie, married (18 yrs, yikes!), one DD-14 (don't get me started braggin' on her ;-)), we live in "The Valley" in Oregon. We also have 2 very thorough QIs, Scooter (Gray/White Tabby) is our Grande Dame at almost 18 - Zoe is our baby at 4. Both take their jobs *very* seriously!

I've been hooked on quilting since 1995 when my DH gifted me with my first quilting class at the LQS. I also do stained glass/mosaic/and just started fusing glass. NOTE: Cutting things up and putting them back together is a good thing! VBG

Current Activities: Recently finished a group of quilts for a local childrens organization using YBR. Love that pattern, I can almost do it in my sleep. It doesn't hurt that I love to collect FQs.

Taking the plunge into selling - giving our women's group at church some table runners, table toppers (one block with borders), some mosaic boxes and a couple mosaic birdhouses. They are doing a fundraiser for missions, so I've been running back and forth between the sewing room and the craft studio (Does that count as a workout?) I used all traditional blocks for the quilts, so I'm hoping that takes care of the copyright issue?!

After I pass those on (this week) I have 2 tops done and waitin' for smamichin' (those are for us) and maybe a Christmas-gift quilt for my brother and his wife - unless I get distracted by something shiny in the craft studio (that happens a lot)!

Hi Roberta, Thanks for the welcome. No, I haven't done any slumping yet but it's on my list! I have seen the bottles, though, they are neat looking. The cheese plate is a good idea, I hadn't figured out how they might be used (other than maybe a spoon rest).
