Quilting Now?

I have been making pillow cases for cancer patients. My quilt group is making them to give. And also am working on valor quilts. NOT working on DH's quilt ( he keeps asking how it's going & I tell him to getr in line behine the returning vets;)

Still puttzing with the 4 I Spy Baby quilts. Fortunately, they'll end up around 54" square so Baby will have time to continue enjoying them. It'll all be 'on hold' for a few weeks as I have the surgery tomorrow: 6 weeks of NO WEIGHT then 6 more weeks of Das Boot. Also have a 'bib apron ' for another SIL ready to sew..and when SIL comes for her annual trek we'll put another Christmas Tree together for her DD (my Niece).

SIL called me the other day from an estate sale asking if we could 'do another tree' besides the one on the 'Design Wall. She found it at the sale :) I sew/quilt them together and the 2 of us decorate with beads, etc : ) Just may 'keep this one :)

You can always backstitch to lock your stitiching. Make smaller stitches too.

She just said, "We don't like green, do we?" LOL.

Thanks ... smaller stitches, I think - otherwise, because the rotary cut strips will be about 7" square or less, I might as well be sewing the whole strip forwards and backwards - too hard to tell exactly where to backstitch. Hmmm, I might try it though.....

There's a slight problem with backstitching: it makes the seam line a teensy bit bulkier so it takes up a teensy bit more fabric when you press it, open or flat doesn't matter. Not a real issue in garment sewing, but when you piece so many bits into a block, even the teensy increments add up to inaccuracy.

Reducing the stitch length is the best option. Roberta in D

Thanks for all the suggestions - I think my machine has stitch length written on the adjustment dial, but I'll check and count for sure. You guys are great. ;-)

Great question! You really got everyone interested!

I'm just finishing a Christmas tree skirt for a friend of mine. She has a long-arm and stitched the eight panels. It was my job to assemble it, and make it reversible. Today I sewed three sets of ties to the opening edge, and just have about 2 feet more of binding to do! In return, she stitched the same pattern for me, on white fabric with a little silver glitter on it. I haven't seen it yet, but she said her sewing room is "glittering'" from end to end! We'll be getting together for the PA Quilt Show in mid-September, so I'll get to see it then. Here's a link:

Thanks, all, for your kind comments. Unfortunately, this skirt won't be "dressing" my tree. It goes back to the friend who did the stitching. She's giving it to her daughter for Christmas. In return for my "assembling" the skirt, she stitched out one for me on white fabric. I will then assemble that one for me! We work together on a lot of projects. She can do all things "quilty", but can't (or maybe she doesn't want to) sew anything else! I made her two pair of cotton PJ's in exchange for her quilting one of my queen-size quilts! I think I got the better of that deal! Another time I made her a laptop case while she waited.
