quilting thread color

How about a variegated browny-yellowy-orangey thread? Like YLI V88 Aspen Gold. That would pick out the bright colours in your tumblers nicely.

I notice that the backing is brown, so I agree with Lizzy. The varieagted thread will tie-in with the mixed colors on the front, but won't be a huge contrast on the back...so you could use brown or dark tan in the bobbin. Beautiful quilt, by the way! I've made several crib-sized tumbler quilts with my scraps, but never thought about the appliqued borders (as if I could do those anyway) !

Now that is a tough call. You don't want a color that will dull down the tumblers. Truth be told, I don't know if you could dull them down. I'm not going to be any help at all here, can't seem to decide. But . . . I would like for you to add some veins to those magnificent flowers and leaves; not much, just some. Love the quilt. Variegated thread which includes as many of the colours of fabric you have used as possible. Some of the Sulky variegateds I have used have perhaps six colours in them - not grades of one colour, but really different ones (they are rayon ones, though, so perhaps not suitable for a quilt which may be washed more often than my hangings?. I like the idea of those continuous curves, which will look even more interesting when they are going round the tumbler shape. . In message , Taria writes

RE: the continuous line quilting. I really like doing this one- for background quilting, too. For background filler quilting you draw a grid and do the same thing as in the video with the 4 patches. I find it helps if I mark a dot at the high point of the arc for several curves until my eye gets comfortable with the positioning. When you do it as a filler pattern they call it Orange Peel- among several other names. I vote for the continuous line quilting!

So, I have this tumbler quilt I keep pulling out and working on little by little. I have echo quilted the border in thread that matches the background. What would you all suggest I quilt with for the field of tumblers? I'm just not sure about the color.

Oh, that's tasty!

Thread color: here's where I'd use all the leftovers, finish up some spools, make it as colorful as the tumblers (I don't care what shows on the back; good quilting is good, whatever the color). Or use the same color as the border. The more you use of that color, the less it sticks out. White? cream? both are neutral in quilting.

Continuous curves? well... as long as each tumbler gets hit to tack down all the pieces, that's my style. YMMV
