Quilts by Sue Stuyvesant - Help request (long-ish)

Hello all -

I received an e-mail from Jeff Stuyvesant with a request for help. Here is his request - __________________________________________

I know its been a while since we've talked... I hoping that you can help me...and some others. You see, Sue started a few quilts that are waiting to be finished (some have the whole top done). I'd like to see these quilts finished and donated to Project Linus (sp?). I'd also like to have them done by somebody local so I could meet the person who does the work and to see the finished quilt. Is there someone you know of who could help me? Thanks, Jeff Stuyvesant P.S. I'll be closing the old AOL account tomorrow. This e-mail is from my new e-mail account and new e-mail address.

__________________________

In another e-mail he added:

Sue, I so glad that you replied and are interested. I do feel that the quilts that Sue started should be finished. I know that she would want them to go to Project Linus... It is perfectly fine to write to me directly at this e-mail address - as long as they don't sell my e-mail address to someone...Ha Ha... Michelle is doing well. She has been in the hospital only once this year (knocking on wood here...) and that was for a variety of infections and fever (ear & UTI + doc wanted to check out her "swollen" leg). She has had several respiratory infections / problems but the care facility has been able to keep it "in control" and keeping her out. Compare this to going to the hospital 10 times last year. I can only hope things keep going well.

If you live in/near Southern California , want to help and can help, please let Jeff or myself know. This is an amazing thing to do - for Sue, and for Jeff!! He would really like to be able to see the work as it is being done, so someone local is the request (or I'd be doing it in a heartbeat...forget the lack of time!!!) I don't know how many quilts there are to complete. His new e-mail address is jeff.stuyvesant@sbcglobal dot net

For anyone not familiar with Sue (MeSue) please refer to this:

MeSue passed away October 13, 2003 after fighting a battle with liver cancer.

I didn't know MeSue very well, and I'm pretty sure the only reason Jeff contacted me is because of the batch of ornaments that I sent from RCTQ from the ornament swap that year...due to someone dropping out at the last moment. He had my e-mail from that and had just recently uncovered it and was able to thank me/us for the gesture. So, sometimes there's a reason that people drop out of swaps at the last moment that actually have nothing to do with that person. Sue's spirit is still here with us on RCTQ and she fills it with love, strength and guidance at every moment that any of us needs it - whether we're reading, or posting, or unable to be linked for lengths of time. There is a little of MeSue in all of us.

Oh, what a wonderful thing to be happening, Sue. Of course, I am nowhere near Southern California. However, I have a top made for Project Linus. If I could sort of join in, I'll finish it and give it to them (we have many groups over here now, too) in memory of MeSue. I will never forget Sue and Jeff and Michelle. They gave me knowledge of the kind of family with problems that most of us do not encounter. Please tell Jeff, if you can, that the love in their family was felt right across the ocean. You are so right that her spirit is still with us here. . In message , Sue DiNapoli writes

If I lived in So. Cal., I'd jump right on this. I didn't know Sue but her postings were so sweet and it was obvious she was a super mom, wife and quilter.

Gosh, it would be really cool if we could get the same group of ladies together that met at Sue's house that one wonderful day back in 2000, I believe. Mz Sarah Curry, Karen Johnson, Linda Campbell, Karen (HoBo), Jeanbaby, Giraffe (now back in Australia), Mz Bfly, and myself. What say, ladies? Maybe we can track down the Burbank motorcycle cop again for old times sake [ya just had to be there - Mz Sairey acting all innocent, asking him to take a picture of us, while we're yelling "Quilt Police!!!" and giggling]

Ginger in CA just had out the pamphlet from meSue's memorial service yesterday, gosh how things fall in to place, huh?

Can't remember why, but I was unable to attend that meeting. I would love to have all of us get together one day with our machines and work as a group on the quilt tops. I think of Sue alot, especially as my guild gets ready for another quilt show. The last time I saw Sue was when she drove down for the show and then we went to lunch at the Mission Viejo Mall. Was so nice to see her have a nice relaxing day. She had mentioned at the time she was not feeling right, only to inform us a short time later that she had cancer.

Since I'm currently in Boston, I can't much call Jeff and take over this project ...

but if anybody else in SoCal is willing to organize this, I'll be back in L.A. for two weeks at Christmas. I still have a Featherweight at my mother's house, and would love to spend a day working on this. Count me in, if we could do it in December .... (It's a terrible time, I know, but it's the best I can offer.)

Still missing Sue more than I can say,

Only thing you didn't talk about was her love of her quilts and quilting.....and how 'persnickety' she was over making them just so : ) I have to smile when I think of her and the Drag and Brag she gave us when we were there :) What fun we had when we did the 'fabric exchange' (for lack of better terminology). Michele didn't get the title *Queen of the Universe* as an afterthought......you could see why when MeSue was caring for her. If memory serves me right--didn't we have an RCTQ'er from NY there also? I'm thinking her first name was Grace....or do I have her cornfuseded with someone else that was there......

Butterfly (and we can't forget her BRIGHTLY colored vests : )

Lovely to see you Karen - albeit in a sad context. Take care,

When you get the quilts ready for delivery to Project Linus, could you let me know which chapter you will be giving them to? I would love to be able to contact the coordinator of that chapter & let her know about the history behind these quilts. It would mean a lot to her and to Project Linus nationally.
