quilty stuff

Well, while I was without a computer I did a bunch of fabric fondling and cutting. I really like all the scrappy quilts done by Bonnie Hunter at

.And I like her system of cutting strips and pieces to have them ready to go, and having stacks of things ready to sew. She has started a new mystery quilt and I had already picked a couple of her other patterns that I really liked, so I spent most of my long weekend while hubby was at work, cutting strips. I've also got hooked on the postage stamp swap and got all my stamps cut for the current round.

Wow! that was a lot of cutting, but so much fun going thru some of my stash. I think I now have enough strips cut to finish the borders for my Orange Crush quilt, my Cathedral Stars quilt, (half the blocks are now sewn for this one), the new mystery quilt (haven't started sewing anything there yet), some for a quilt that is still just floating in my head, and some for a quilt pattern that I know needs 2 1/2 inch squares in jewel tones and brighter stuff. The postage stamp swap alone took 2 strips each of 50 different fabrics!

I did have some difficulty letting myself cut into some of the yardage. The thought kept coming up " what if I want that for something specific and then don't have enough left?" I finally decided that if I hadn't had something specific in mind when I bought it, and if I hadn't bought a bunch of coordinates for it then it was time to cut it up! I've spent the last 6 years or so collecting fabric but doing very little actual sewing. I've found that having a stack of stuff ready to stitch allows me to just sit down and sew for 10 minutes here and there and eventually I have something to show for it.

Today I got sent to town to run some unexpected errands. I treated myself to stops at 2 quilt shops. I bought a couple of 1/2 metre pieces of fall colors at one, and a couple more at the other. There sure are some beautiful fabrics out there!

Anyway, got to get my laundry folded before bed (it's piled on the bed)

quilty dreams everyone

You got a lot done. I didn't do much sewing over the weekend since our daughter and family were here. Hadn't seen them for 10 months. DGD is such a joy at nearly 3. It took me a couple days to get back into the swing but today I did. I finished the 4th canvas shopping bag, made 4-6 inch blocks, got swap blocks ready to mail, and started on a diaper bag for DHs boss who has a baby boy due in Jan. I found some blue and white batik pre-quilted fabric for it. Next quilt will be for DGS that is turning 3 in Jan and a sailboat quilt to go in the diaper bag.

Boy, I like the way you think Roberta! now if only my budget and my space agreed with you! LOL! and no, I'm not very well organized, but I'm working on at least getting some of my sewing organized! Now that I've got all this cut into strips we'll see how organized I can stay getting stuff put together. At least I shouldn't get bored with any one project!
