Re: My Featherweight is Home!

1995? Those machines make a beautiful stitch. I like using mine in the card table for them. I have my grandma's and have made baby quilts for great nieces and nephews on that machine. Kind of a sentimental thing. I take mine to classes to. Wonderful to piece on. There are several things you can do for the smell. Charcoal, kitty litter, bar of smelly soap. Just leaving open for a week or so in dry air helps. The smell is what I call a FW smell. I don't mind it at all. You might want to get the Nancy Srebro-Johnson book to learn all about your machine. Glad it is home safe. Taria

I sew on mine all the time! Hopefully you've got a manual with yours....follow the directions for oiling and cleaning before you use it. If you don't have a manual, look here:

There's not much to go wrong on one of these, and if there is a problem it's usually because it hasn't been threaded right, the needle is in wrong, or the tension is out of wack. All three are easy fixes. =20

A well cared for FW is an absolute joy to sew on. Usually I do piecing on mine, and use one of the bigger machines for larger jobs, but I'll also do regular sewing on the FW when traveling. They are great for taking on the road and there's nothing like having a chance to quilt or sew while on vacation :-) Plus, they attract a lot of attention and are great for starting conversations.

My FW is used all the time. I spent a small fortune on a fancy Janome, but it has not been touched for several years.
