round table runner?

I have seen a gazillion patterns for rectangle table runners, but never a round one for a round or octagon table. Anyone make one? Patterns anyone?

What about one of the wedge quilt designs? Here's a few search results.

Or a giant Dresden Plate? Or star pattern?

Check out some of the patterns around for tree skirts - they might be adaptable.

Try looking for 'candle mats' or 'table mats' or 'table toppers' - I've seen them referred to as each of these. Most of them that I have seen in the LQSs are individual patterns, many times by more local designers. I have seen a couple of books from House of White Birches that are nothing but candle mat patterns. Depending on what size you want you may have to modify the patterns (I think the candle mat ones generally are a bit smaller), but some also have larger variations. One I have makes a 13in 'candle mat', a

17 1/2 in 'table topper', and a 24in 'table topper' so just look at the project dimensions. This particular pattern also includes instructions on making a couple of different sized runners too, so maybe check some of your favorite runner patterns to see if they have directions for other variations too.

Don't know how much help that was for you...

I have a couple octagonal patterns. I just finished a scrappy one. I found the pattern online for you -

they wouldn't be a runner, but a topper or centrepiece! try searching for that and I bet you'll find some!

Don't overlook the choice of a square, Jan. Just depending on the effect you want to create, a square placed on a bare round table or one covered with a round cloth is very good looking. You could audition sizes by cutting sheets of yesterday's newspaper until you decided what size is for you. The square with points hanging over the edge of the table with tassels on those corners is an interesting look - depending, of course, on whether you have a QI who would find them 'very' interesting.
