Sacramento S.E.X.

Churches is the best authentic Southern fried chicken you can get outside my now-deceased Granny's kitchen. It's incredible because it's so basic and real.

J R Flamingo's -- unbelievable!!!! Fantastic collections of Kaffe Fassett, Asian prints, and batiks. Why haven't I stopped there before!?!? I know I went to some other places, but this was THE BEST. If I had gone there 5 years ago when I first started learning to quilt, I would have been shocked and overwhelmed. Now I just drooled and handed over my credit card.

Got 33 MPG on the trip as a whole, despite going 5 MPH for 20 minutes in an uphill construction zone on I-80. That's in my 1996 Plymouth Neon with the AC running oh high.

Ahhh, I'm satisfied until my next trip over in November. Weather permitting. And somebody said I should try Church's Chicken next time. Could I really do that instead of Popeye's?

If you'd gone there 5 years ago, you'd have seen a vacant store front because they hadn't opened yet. :)

Yes, they do have a lot of fun stuff. And the owner *knows* what she's got and has a great color sense. I rarely ask for help with fabrics, but that's one store where I don't mind suggestions because hers are so good.

Now I don't feel so bad for not looking for it before. So did it open in

2005, not 5 years ago? I just love the place.

Come to think of it, I don't even think I had started to quilt 5 years ago. End of 2004 would have been my inaugural quilting attempts. It was the year Material Girls' brick-and-mortar shut down. I happened upon the closing sale.

I've kept a little "diary" of each trip except 2007. That was the year I got home at 10:00 PM. Hadn't even gotten to Popeye's until after 7:00 PM. I went everywhere (except JR Flamingo's) and chatted with every body as the day went on. I think Sacramento is a downright friendly town. Of course, I don't think I've even made it into the Sacramento city limits!
