I was informed last night that DW's SM has a NAME. Yup, that's right, she named it. So of course I gotta ask... Do/Have you name/d your SM(s) and/or other quilting equipment/gear/paraphernalia? Minds with entirely too much time on their hands and nothing better to do are just dying to know...
I'm with you, Amy. Our new computer has a name. It is very long and includes the words usually reserved for 'some assembly required' that are necessary with swingsets and tricycles. Polly
I will admit to whispering sweet nothings to the bantam when it is having bobbin case burps, particularly when I am trying to coax it through finishing something. It is my prefered machine for topstitching.
Usually though when I call my machines names you see sailors run screaming...

Mrs Alexandria Jones: a 1907 Jones family CS hand crank with Princess Alexandria decals...
Spinning Jenny: a 1923 Singer 66K with lotus pattern decals, so named by my bro when I bought it in 1976... 'Kate, that's as old as the Spinning Jenny!' (Not quite, but the name stuck!)
Jane: My 'Plain Jane' very low-key decals set treadle Singer 15-80. Real work horse machine, this. Plain and simple!
Lily: the Husqvarna Lily 550.
Bernie: Bernina 1150MDA serger.
'Nina: Bernina 1005 sewing machine, names by the kids I work with.
Brother John: The Brother 1034D serger, named after my bro.
FrankenSinger: Singer 99K cobbled together out of the bits of at least 3 machines after an accident with a crane, a ship, and a long journey in
My 1968 Bernina is called The Queen Beatrice, the others are Miriam the Minimatic, and Baby B. The big walking-foot industrial is called Hannibal. The treadles (which get used the most) never seem to get names. As to the other dozen or so.. they don't have names yet..
No names for my sewing machines, although I call them sweet nothings when they purr and call them ..... um, yeah, what Amy said .... when they misbehave. But I do have a blanket that has a name. My sister sent me this incredible fake fur cover 5 or 6 years ago. It's the expensive kind that really feels real and the backing is suede. So soft, so warm, so cozy and gorgeous. And had to have a name. Gwendolyn. Gwendolyn is put away when warm weather arrives, and just last week I asked my DH to please bring Gwendolyn in for my cold feet on the sofa. Everybody in the house knows Gwendolyn's name. Their friends know who Gwendolyn is. And everybody knows Gwendolyn is the warmest thing in the house. So on any cool evening (or afternoon or morning) it's not surprising to find one of us snuggled up in bed with Gwendolyn.
