Sewing Machine Score!!!

I've been haunting an antique/flea market place close to my house in hopes of finding an older work horse sewing machine. Today I found a BEAUTIFUL blue one with amazing silver work on the end and back..... for $5!!!!! I sat on it and called my husband on the cell phone to run to my end of the store to lift it for me!! It's an American Home Precision DeLuxe. And Frood, they had a margarita.... but I just couldn't swing the price tag on that one.... wow! :-)

Good hunting, Jan! That beauty is a clone of the Singer 15s, and will do everything my Margarita does! Love the face plate! The needle probably goes in the same was as mine - with the flat side facing left, and gets threaded right to left. I've been looking for one of those, but haven't had the right kind of luck yet!

Wow! I love that scrollwork! Congratulations! Did you test it to see if it runs?

Hi Jan,

I was lucky enough to be given an old Precision Sewing Machine this summer, and I found this manual online. Will this help you out?

Actually the only thing I'm not sure of at this point... is on the top of the machine on the left... I suspect it has to do with the pressure foot, but instead of screwing adjustment, it has a lever and it pops up quickly....

just went back to see the button on top. i wonder... does that section of the machine open at all? the scrolled work section i mean. perhaps inside there or somewhere to release the tension for darning/FMQ/embroidery? could that pop up thing on top be something to do with the spring/bounce action that happens with that foot.. maybe that will ring a bell to someone else on here. it looks familiar to me. i think i had one on my first sewing machine bought new in the late 60s, a singer, long since gone whoknowswhere. must be some info on that thingy online somewhere...if only we can find it. just something to consider...fwiw. jeanne

The silver area unscrews, but the drop feed dogs are on the front with a delightful easy to reach knob..... you can tell it has to do with the pressure foot as it pops, but it's different from anything I've seen.....

Also does anyone have any clue if I need to oil the machine part of this?? the singer manuals mention it, but the deluxe manual on line didn't.... wouldn't want to burn the motor out in my eagerness :-)

i was thinking it might be kinda/sorta similar to old stoves that the dial popped in/out for manual/auto timer cooking. pop up/down button puts tension in/out of bounce mode for FMQ/darning/emb... jeanne

Thanks Taria! And Art knows nothing about motors..... I'm on my own here.... and I can not figure out if I'm to lube this one or not... nothing looks like it does on the singer manuals and the precision one posted earlier mentions nothing about it...... there are a couple of screws in the motor area that just have springs in them.... but I don't know....

I think that is kind of it... varying degrees down and the lever pops it all the way up..... will be able to tell more once I figure out if the motor needs lubrication or not and can let it rip ;-)
