The problem my dw had was the bobbin tension. Couldn't keep it the same. she did sew a lot with it til she quit.

I don't remember what model my old singer was, but bobbin tension was the reason I replaced it (received it as a gift in '72). When I took it in for servicing, I was told the repairs would be more than the value of the machine. The machine went. That was in '95. In that time I sewed everything from hemmed diapers to dress slacks.

I wish I still had my old one. It was a good little machine. It partly depends on when it was made. If I recall correctly, the Fashionmate was produced by the "old" Singer company and by the "new" one when the company name was sold. The newer ones may not be as good as the older ones.

(But it was better than the Brother I bought and fought with for 5 years.)

No, I have one but haven't used it much since I got my brother and then my viking platinum. there is a bit of the tension mechanism that is messed up, explaining why I always had all that trouble...

Marissa excited to be back - tomorrow I am taking a machine quilting class with Elizabeth Spanning and Sat and Sun I am going to my guild's retreat! :o)

hi to you too! thing is, my laptop is back! DH reformatted the hard drive after moving all my files to his desktop that has a huge disk... I installed a couple of programs and I am up and running again (and the machine is a lot faster). Only problem is that I am using the university newsgroup for now because I cannot figure out how to login to my free university of berlin account..anybody know how to retrieve your login data?

Marissa, How do you like the Viking Platinum? It's the one I keep coming back to as having alot of potential without spending toooo much of a fortune.

I love it, to tell you the truth... have to take it in for cleaning and tuning, just because it has been a while since I got it, not because there is anything wrong with it - but I don't want to part with it! I have the FW as a backup, and I was thinking of loaning the Fashionmate to my new tech, whom I am teaching how to quilt (together with another postdoc in the lab, two new recuits!). BTW, I asked this before, but, does anybody have a dead fashionmate for parts? I'd love to get that tension fixed for her!
