These sewing machines are not "Industrial Strength", by any stretch of the imagination. They might be good sewing machines, but they are domestic sewing machines like are found in your grandmothers house and are loved today for nostalgic and otherwise domestic sewing uses, and were never used in any industrial capacity for commercial sewing duty. The folks that use the claim of "Industrial" anything are trying to pump up the value on an unsuspecting buyer. They are nice machines in their own right, but not "Industrial", anything.

Perhaps it equates to the 'Professional' describing my Janome 6500!

At least that appellation was applied at the factory. This person who sells this stuff on ebay is notorious for this kind of thing.

Read the 'Industrial Strength' auctions...most make pretty outragious statements. Any of these wonderful old domestic machines used regularly the way an Industrial would be would not hold up for very long.

Actually, I was told by someone who worked for Janome, that the 1600p, Professional, and the 6500/Professional, series of machines, were first created for the Japanese domestic home sewing business market. Thereby making their choice of the word Professional, at least somewhat related to the usage. When they were brought over to the USA and other non Japanese world markets, they kept the Professional name, as it was thought to be a good marketing image.

Listen to John, these are good strong machines but they are not "Industrial Strength", don't be tricked into a bidding war with folks who don't know any better! Bonnie, in Middletown, VA
I did an e-bay search last night for "15-91", looking for a part for my own machine. Naturally, several whole working machines came up. I was amazed that the majority of these listings are listed as "industrial". One even was listed as a "leather-sewing industrial machine"! Just a plain old 15-91. It described the machine as it would sew canvas, six layers of denim, blah blah. I would *never* abuse my 15-91 like that. It probably *could* sew canvas or leather, but for how long? I had to practically sit on hands to keep from dropping a note to the seller. There *are* old industrial Singers, but they're not even the same color as the 15-91, or at least the ones I've seen.
