Some comforting (and funny!) words for the "casual" quilter

Cruising thru all 718 quilting books on WalMart's website (whew!) I found one called "That Dorky Homemade Look". There is a section of the book printed on the website. You need to read this for a good belly laugh... a hilarious point of view on quilting!

ROFLOL - this woman sounds just like me!!! Interesting sideline. I saw my DSM this past weekend when we went to the Go-kart Nationals in Sydney. I took some hand piecing with me (hearts blankie stitched onto squares) and my mum's first comment was "Geez your stitching is so much better than on your first qilt. Look how small they are. A bit uneven though". It was all I could do to smile pityingly and say through gritted teeth "The first one was supposed to look like that - It was a rustic pattern". Sheesh, the woman knew that I hadn't sewn a stitch in 30 odd years!!!

Guess you can't please some peeps. Bring on the dorky quilts I say!

Finally got to see the site, I love the sentiment! My piecing stitches fairly good, but I haven't done much hand quilting yet, my quilting stitches would probably be large and possibly a bit uneven.

I'll second that recommendation. The whole book was a belly laugh! I read it on a plane, and got some funny looks from people trying to figure out why I was giggling the whole flight. :)

That is a hilariously funny book. So is the newest one by the same author. I love to find the humor books about what we do. Especially when the writers are actually quilters too.

Now, what about a "Dorky Homemade Quilt" challenge??? I keep thinking I should make one, that follows all the "rules", and enter in our local Quilt Show. Wonder who all would get the joke??

I barely made it through principle one: I've never thought much of a person who could only make a triangle with three sides. Thank you, Leslie. Polly
