Speaking of thread....

This is probably something that most of you know already, but just in case.... ;)

I've used Mettler thread for years -- less fuzz and muss than C&C or Star or anything else I've used. However, the new LQS here stocks a different brand, which was also recommended by several people I've run into in various places. It's Aurifil, 50-weight cotton (orange spool), and I bought a spool a couple of months ago. I didn't use it right away, though, as I wanted to finish up my Mettler first.

A couple of days ago, I finally started using the Aurifil. It's

*wonderful*! If Mettler had almost no fuzz, Aurifil has even less. My Bernina loves it and just purrs. It's made of Egyptian long-staple cotton, so the fact that it's only 2-ply instead of 3-ply probably won't make a difference in strength. It's pricey -- about $9 for a spool -- *but* the spool has about 1400+ yards of thread on it, compared to about 550 yards on a larger Mettler spool that costs at least $5.

NAYY -- just thought I'd pass along something I like. :)

The teacher @ the last class I took was singing it's praises. She picked it up @ a show, and is trying to get my LQS to start carrying it.

Lots of places, Flossy! Start with and then do a Google search on Aurifil. :)

That's what I use now too. Great thread. A bunch of my quilting friends started using it when That Thread Shop

was a vendor at our quilt show and they were at Houston last year also. I just finished using my first spool after almost 2 years. I use a lighter gray. Web of Thread also carries it now too. It's showing up on more and more quilt sites. We did persuade one of the LQS to carry it and the teachers love it.

However, my Janome Gem doesn't like it and the thread breaks and I use the Mettler in it.

I'm also an Aurifil fan, but the thread of theirs I especially appreciate is the 80 wt "bobbinfil" -- black or white only, gossamer fine stuff that's good for heirloom type sewing as well as thread for couching or bobbin thread for embroidery.
