Did you know the U.S. Post Office is coming out with a stamp devoted to quilting. They are of the quilts from Gees Bend Alabama. They are suppose to go on sale August 24th. How about that.

I learned this too when I recently went to the Quilts of Gees Bend exhibit here at the Museum of Fine Arts-Houston.
If you haven't gotten to see this exhibit, please try to whenever possible! It is the most moving display of quilts I have seen. Not just the quilts themselves, but the history and the stories of the people who made them. Walking through the exhibit halls among those quilts, gave me goosebumps and reading their histories brought tears to my eyes.
You can actually FEEL the lives and the history in those quilts. Definitely a very moving display!
Hugs, Tina, who will definitely be purchasing the stamps ASAP to add to her collection!
The exhibit is here in SF at the deYoung Museum. I really should get to it........

The quilts are in SF at the de Young museum for anyone nearby. There isn't room to hang all the quilts so some will change part way through the exhibit.

How long will they stay in SF, and when will they be in Seattle ??? Heidi from Germany ( 13 days remaining till our flight to the U.S. ) DrQuilter schrieb:
I can answer the SF part:
Sorry, I realized I should have changed the subject line. Clearly a sign of chocolate deficiency. :)
it's amazing what publicity can do to the price of a quilt
I too think they are over priced though.
Thanks Kathy :-) Probably I should have changed the subject line Heidi from Germany "Kathy Applebaum" schrieb:
That was kind of my thought when they were here in DC. It's a bunch of quilts that folks used what they had. Folks have been doing that since the mid 1800's.............

Me too, although I saw the quilts in Norfolk, VA, not DC. And at the time, I didn't see any prices, I just enjoyed the quilts and the stories. I guess this is different from many collections, since it is so together in time and space. I really did love the exhibition, but no, I don't understand those prices either.

Howdy!
That's a long time you've been quilting, Taria. You look great, btw. ;-D
