Surprising blocks

Thanks Kathyl. I thought it was a bit 'unfashionable' to get anything; but it was something I wanted to do, so I did it 'my way' >g< . In message , KJ writes

Thanks Sunny. Sally took some great photos, most of ideas. The show seemed to be full of snippets of new ideas this year. Great fun! . In message , Sunny writes

Thanks Tut. Yes - I do seem to be improving! (but most of it - almost all - was done with the walking foot and the feed dogs up) . In message , Tutu Haynes-Smart writes

I've just put it into Paintshop Pro and magnified it so I can see every block individually. The actual quilting is interesting too. The purple flower section (going down the sides too) have random wavy fluid horizontal lines in a purpley thread, while the centre dark section, going down over the green flowers has vertical sunray lines in black.

We seemed to be the only ones who stopped and had a good look (and that seemed to include the judges!) I hope she enters in other shows

The picture of your pretty rosette just jumped in all by itself, Pat! Your pictures of the Cathedral Floor are much better than mine.

Its always difficult to take photos of full quilts without being a pain to everyone else trying to look, so I just get snippets to jog my memory when I get home. Useful when you've seen a block you would like to use sometime but would forget the detail - got a couple of these, or unusual colour combinations and ideas that go just one (or two!) steps further. The sort of things you notice when you're looking at a quilt and think 'that's clever'. There seemed to be a lot of 'that's clevers'!

Yes, there did, didn't there! I don't remember going round saying that so many times, in previous years. The great thing about them is that they are things that can be used in 'ordinary' quiltmaking; not necessary to be doing something way out and 'fashionable' - as my quilts are definitely not! Those visually overlapping nine-patches were really useful - and so pretty; and the differently scaled stippling. I will be going through the photos you kindly transferred to my computer to remind myself of more - after my 'day of liberation' >g< . In message , Sally Swindells writes

Pat, congratulations! We all knew that quilt had to be a winner! Sally, thanks for showing this (and Pat's ribbon). I never imagined a watercolor using kaleidoscope techniques. Roberta in D
