On 12-block quilts representing the months through the year September is school, October is a pumpkin, etc., but what is usually the theme for August?

I don't know what's 'usual' but I could see it being The Beach!

There are no holidays in August in the U.S., but I think of August as vacation time and as a hot month. A beach umbrella or beach toys or swim goggles or sunglasses or simply a big sun. Picnic gear. A sailboat. Or maybe a sunflower. It's also the time for county fairs and state fairs; maybe that will suggest something to you.

Picnics maybe
Bright sun/vacations/beach.
I immediately thought of the beach, but I love the idea of 'dog days' of summer. How about a hot dog and a 'hot dog' in a beach scene??? Okay, I know. Corny! LOL (corn dog???)

Well, my birthday, of course!!
My mini-group gets together to celebrate each other's birthdays & this year, we're having a hard time finding a date in August when everyone is around, so we had to move it to September - that means I can have cake till September, right?

Time to relax - reading, sports, any summer activity - but for me, reading time.

Moi! My spendiferous self made entry onto this planet in what has come to be known as August. It was named August for my august presence, I have it On Authority that August did not exist prior to Me. So far as I am concerned it didn't, but then from my viewpoint everything that was BNM is mythical.
If you need something that is not quite so blindingly brilliant, then how about a lion? The astrological sign that takes up most of the month is Leo and when the makers of perpetual calenders come to August they fairly often choose a lion for it. It makes a much more impressive graphic than ragweed pollen, which is what an awful lot of people seem to think of in association with August.
NightMist why yes I am a Leo
Leo's seem to be everywhere. I can take a leo sun but the leo ascendant is almost always more than I can take, same with capricorn sun/ascendent. There are more than a few with those combinations in the family. They tend to stand out, actually demand to stand out. LOL Taria
