Gosh, Marcella, I had just exactly the opposite experience! I wish you'd been at the booth when I was -- both so you could have dealt with the DDs being pleasant and so that we could have visited for a bit. :S
when I was travelling back from Egypt I had forgotten all about the scissors in my sewing bag in my handbag - my favourite ones and of course they had to be taken out of my bag and the people just nabbed a HUGE envelope and pot them in - copied my ticket info and it went into the hold (and came out first too!) having something nabbed from checked in stuff is too strange! sounds more like thievery to me.
