OK, I give in. Help with computer needed, please

Dear all,

As Kate has told you, I am trying to configure Broad Band ASDL.

I can't get the newsgroup through netscape mail and newsgroup settings. I want to be able to see, read the new things and reply.

What am I doing wrong, or better still can anyone tell me what to do? Would I be better with a different "front end"? I used to be AOL but it doesn't want to play with the ASDL connection I am forced to have. (Tiscali...long story.)

I am still at my old e-mail address, so probably that would be the best way to reply, rather than gum up the ng, 'cos I think everyone else knows and I'm the only daft one. :-) But any replies would be gratefully received.

Meanwhile, I need a new gadget to cheer me up. Maybe one of those thread holder things... on a mission... see you later. ;-)

Eyren,

I don't know if this will help you or not. I recently switched to dsl and had trouble with several of my internet programs, chat, etc. What I discovered is that dsl modem acts like a router (however a router acts) and I had to make several configuration changes. If I remember correctly (and it's a 50-50 chance) there was a setting for newsgroups. Call your tech support and point them in that direction and see if that will solve your problems.

When I got connected to ADSL, I called my ISP who walked me through the connecting to the newsgroups etc., so why not give that a try.

Nell, you are not alone. My latest was the discovery that V8 juice comes in Picante flavor (I have no life). I blurted out this amazing news to a group of friends who looked at me, told me it had been available for YEARS, and went back to whatever they were doing (probably discussing my decreasing mental capacity). :)
