Help with loom setup please

May 30, 2006 2 Replies

Hello. I'm relatively new to beading. I've made a few things (4 or 5 bracelets) but I'm having a problem keeping the tension consistent from row to row. Most of the warp threads will be fine but I will always end up with 2 or 3 (of 18) loose. No matter what I do, I have not been able to keep the tension even. I've tried wrapping the thread around a yard stick until I have 9 on each side. I tape them in place about 6 inches from the end of the stick, slide one end off and make a loop to attach to the spindle, then I do the same on the other end, remove the tape and start rolling the thread bundles onto the spindle on one end. When I get to the other end, and I attach to the other spindle and then tighten them up is when I find the loose threads. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

What am I actually working on? A beaded headband for my granddaughter's Halloween costume...

thanks in advance Mike

I've never heard of using a yardstick, that's a new one on me. I put my warp threads directly on the loom, working back and forth from end to end.

Maybe I don't understand what kind of loom you're using?

I'd be interested in hearing other folks talk about it, too.

Cheers, Carla
