Please Help with Antique Singer!

Hello! I recently became the owner of a beautiful Antique Singer. Serial Number G9152510, from 1910-1922. Model number 15188. Firstly, I cannot find a manual for this model number -anywhere-. The generic "15 class" manuals are far too new and I have found no manual on this machine. In addition, the bobbin winder on this machine is not working. When I first got it, and there was a bobbin shoved onto the winder. The thread guider was blocking the bobbin from sliding off, so I unscrewed the guider slightly to take the bobbin off. The guider then became too loose, and does not move with the winder as it should. Theoretically it should move back and forth, guiding the thread onto the bobbin. However when tightened, it does not allow the bobbin past it, and it does not move back and forth with the winder wheel. I am at a total loss--I have worked for a while with older machines, and I even have an old Capital machine, a Japanese Singer rip-off from post WWII (but is - identical- to Singers of the time period). But because this machine is so old, I can't figure out the bobbin winder, and I am even more lost without a manual. I'm quite upset--I just want the bobbin winder to work! Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!!

I'm no help with the manual, and I don't collect antique machines, although there are several "here" who do so they may be able to help.

However, if what you need is to wind bobbins:

Is the model number correct 15-188 and not a 15-88

is this what your bobbin winder looks like ?

Your machine is a class 15, built on or just after December 1910. There is no 1 in the class.

All type 15s, from the hand crank through to the electric models work in the same way, so for general purposes, the standard type 15 manual will work. Some bobbin winders on early models were slightly different, but that is all. The same manual that works for my 15-88 treadle will work for yours. You can pick up a free PDF manual for this machine from here: >
