What I was doing when the lights went out. (long and on topic)

Now that I am a bit more settled in and only having to deal with the heat and humidity I can safely turn the computer on for right now. Another wave a storms came in and we were down again for a short time.

Anyway even with all the confusion of the last day and a half I was able to have a bit of fun on the way home. My sister and I stopped at a very large church rummage sale. My only wish was that if I had arrived about a half hour earlier I may have been the owner of a very lovely antique quilt. I got to drool over it and wanted to cry. The new owner paid $5.00 for this love 1921 log cabin quilt. It was in perfect shape too. Of course she wasn't willing to part with it but I had to try to convince her to let me buy it from her. No luck there. But I did find a lot of wonderful quilting books. I bought every last one of them. There are 12 books and at the unbelievable price of 10 cents each!!!! So all evening I have been thumbing through them ... One magazine had me ROTFL so hard I thought I was going to lose it all! It was an old Quilt World magazine from 1976 and there was an article in it about the disease called "Americanaquiltis". Once one is afflicted with this disease there is no cure and it creeps slowly with out warning affecting mostly women. There are signs and symptoms of the disease but for the most part go unnoticed until it is to late. I am still laughing about it. As well as the books and the few magazines in my collection of goods I also came home with a bunch of cookie tins... I suppose I should count them... They will all be put to use during the holiday baking I do. They were all 5-10 cents each. I even found a bit of fabric, not much this time around... seems I should have stopped earlier in the week to check things out because we were told that there was only about 1/3 rd left of what was there the beginning of the week. It has been going on all week... I also pick up some tracing paper and a number of notions from needles to bindings and buttons and so on... To make things even sweeter everything was 1/2 off for today and tomorrow... so I spent the grand total of $7.00 and come home feeling like I had spent $1000!!!!

The power went out while we were this this afternoon... that little hiccup I mentioned in a different post... but that didn't stop us one bit. It didn't seem to stop others either.

The hardest part of doing this rummage sale was the traffic line ups at the only 2 open gas stations in the area that finally had 'real' power that were at the intersection next to the church. I think if I can persuade DH maybe tomorrow we can go there and see what other treasures we can come up with... who knows I may have missed some other quilt books or fabrics... I would suppose that more people here than not live outside the black out area. But it would be interesting to find out what other were doing to have fun during the black out... that is of course if they are back on line with the power.

I came home with my treasures and haven't even looked at anything but the quilt books... I can hardly wait to tear into one series of appliqué patterns in one of the books. However that is going to have to wait for another day. juliasb ... still in recovery but not from Americanaquiltits
