Beautiful...gorgeous! That color combination stands out so well with the black. Can't wait to see this once you have to border attached!

The border will be really great with your design. You've done a great job, Terri!

Looks awesome!!! As far as the "swapped colors" I heard somewhere (maybe from my Great Aunt who inspired me to learn to quilt) that mistakes used to be purposely made in quilts so that they wouldn't be perfect....because only God can make perfect things. *IF* you are spiritual this train of thought might work for you?!!?!

You can do it very easily by Seminole piecing, though the corners would have to be done separately. If you look at the ribbon, you will see that it is made up of sloping pieces - one is all the same colour, the other is a dark centre with two light ends. The single colour strip is, of course, just that! the one with the dark centre can be cut from a strip set of a dark strip, with two outer strips in the light colour (much wider, to allow for the slope), this is then cut across at right angles to make small strips in the three colours. Set the solid and the striped one together at an angle, and the pattern will emerge. You will have to work out the sizing for your quilt, so draw up a section or two on graph paper, to see how the sizing works. . In message , Kate G. writes

Well thank you, all of you! I have determined that I don't have enough fabric to finish the border of a lap size quilt! Gah! So I'm going to have to set this aside to either see if I can order some more as there isn't any more of the yellow (I bought it long ago) and I bought the last of the purple when I was in the LQS the other day. Either that or I'm going to have to be happy with a huge wall hanging! As for quilting, I'm thinking of stiple using some of the new Signature vari-colored threads. I used some on a wall quilt and absolutely loved the stuff. I'm calling this quilt "Cube Collision" and have put that on in my quilting album which is fully loaded but I do have to go back and put some info. and entries in there. In the meantime, I thank everyone so much for their input, help and encouragement!

My greatest inspiration to quilt also came from my (ex-husband's) aunt -- a lovely woman who was like a grandmother to me. She also said the same thing -- that every quilt should have a mistake left in it, and for the same reason. In fact, I have several vintage quilts I inherited from her that have surprisingly obviously mistakes in them -- they don't take away from the beauty of the quilt, but you can tell they were done intentionally. :)

I plan to photograph these quilts and add to an album one of these days.
